Banana Republic's Creative Director Steps Down

by Sienna Fantozzi

I'm wondering if there's something in the water, because according to Fashionista, Marissa Webb is stepping down as Banana Republic's creative director. This news comes a week after Ralph Lauren announced he was stepping down as CEO. Well, at least we don't have to worry about Karl Lagerfeld retiring. The bright side, folks.

After showing the Banana Republic Spring 2016 collection at New York Fashion Week this September, Webb has announced that she is leaving her role as creative director, a position she's held for just over a year. But don't get too sad, because much like Ralph Lauren, she isn't leaving the company entirely. Instead, Webb is going to be taking on more of a "creative adviser" role, where she'll have creative influence without having to deal with the the painstaking day-to-day duties and responsibilities of a creative director. Alright, that sounds like something I can get on board with.

So who will be stepping into her shoes? Surprisingly — no one. Gap has decided not to fill the role, due in part to their already strong team in place, as well as the lack of improving sales. I guess this seems like the best possible solution for everyone involved.

Luckily, she isn't going too far, but let's celebrate Webb's time as creative director with a few of her standout pieces.
