Rad 'Star Wars' Couples Costume Ideas

by Jen Marie

Choosing the right couples costume is a decision weighing on the mind of many significant others this time of year. While there are a lot of clever ideas out there (like steak and Ron Swanson), many pairs choose cult classics, like Star Wars couples costumes. Within that theme alone, there are easily half a dozen character combos to choose from, most of whom are highly recognizable and a lot of fun.

Of course, for those of us who don't have a willing or local other half — or happen to be rocking the single life — the longing to pair up in a Force-themed double presents a few obvious complications. But never fear, my friends: Where there's a will, there's a way. Whether you're enjoying this season's festivities with your significant other, bestie, or (Han) solo with the help of Photoshop, setting your sights on a Star Wars themed costume means plenty of possibilities.

When it comes to settling on the right character duo from the Star Wars universe, it's important to consider your personal style as a couple. Are you traditional, romantic, and ready to face the galaxy side by side? Are you reliable, steady, and the sort of pair always willing to lend a helping hand? Or do you enjoy your devious nature, flirt with danger, and embrace your darker side? Whatever your answer, below are three pairings that will get you started in the realm of Star Wars couples costumes.

1. Princess Leia And Han Solo

If you opted for traditional and romantic, Princess Leia and Han Solo are your clear go-to couple. Luckily, just because you're going traditional doesn't mean you have to be vanilla. Han obviously has a pretty standard look. Throughout the series, however, each of them has a few different wardrobe options, ranging from incognito to a little bit sexy. Personally, I chose to represent this pair in their standard garb.

Star Wars Sexy Princess Leia Adult Costume, $55, Buy Costumes

The Princess Leia costume featured above comes in one convenient package (including the wig), sans the platform boots, whereas the Han Solo costume is kind of a "grab what you have on hand" outfit. You could also purchase a pre-packaged ensemble, though.

2. Are These The Droids You're Looking For?

OK, I know what you're thinking. Two R2-D2s? Shouldn't there be a C-3PO in this couple? Well, yes. And when you and your significant other or bestie choose to knock this couples costume out of the park, I'd highly suggest donning some gold attire, a robot mask, and an etiquette infused attitude. For my solo mission, however, I opted for some twinning, because... why not?

R2-D2 Fit and Flare Dress, $45, Think Geek

If you're interested in replicating my droid costume, pair the R2-D2 corset from Spirit Halloween with your favorite white skinny jeans and a rocking pair of platform boots or simple flats. Or, spring for an adorable R2-D2 fit and flare dress. And if you want to add C-3PO to your droid equation, the options featured below are golden.

3. Embrace Your Dark Side

That's right, when it comes to Star Wars costumes, some of the most notable characters are the most villainous. Which, of course, makes them a whole lot of fun to dress up as. Take a cue from me and pair Darth Vader with a Stormtrooper, or perhaps Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious. Another fun play on dabbling in the dark side could be a Stormtrooper holding Chewbacca captive.

Black Cotton Spandex Unitard Costume Bodysuit Adult Plus 1X/2X, $23, Jet

Each of these costumes are pretty easily purchased online, as you can see. Whether you want a traditional Darth Vader outfit or are interested in a more form-fitting version, there are a variety of options out there: Options that include costumes with traditional character-based gender roles as well as those that switch things up.

When it comes to Stormtrooper costumes, the same availability pretty much applies. These are the costume pieces I used, as well as a few additional choices, depending on your personal style.
