H&M x Ximon Lee's Collection Is Going To Be Rad

by Eliza Florendo

This trend of genderless clothing seems to be continuing, thanks to H&M's capsule collection with Ximon Lee that was just unveiled on Thursday. The 24-year-old designer won the H&M Design Award earlier this year in January, and for good reason: Lee has some serious vision. Honestly, I couldn't be happier!

What are these rad unisex pieces I am speaking of? Picture: extremely baggy silhouettes, pleats, and oversized collars. According to Fashionista, Lee is the first designer from the United States to win the H&M design award, as well as the first menswear designer to take home the prize. Basically, H&M picks eight designers, all who present a collection in front of a panel. These judges include Tommy Ton, Lily Allen, and more. Not only does the winner receive €50,000, they also win the opportunity to sell pieces that have been developed from his or her collection, according to Fashionista Pretty sweet deal if you ask us!

WWD reports that the collection will go on sale in select H&M stores on Oct. 22. Lee's collection is filled with pieces that both men and women can wear. Expect to find some heavy denim jackets and and wide shorts, according to WWD. After viewing the collection Lee presented to the panel, we can anticipate some cool shapes and unexpected materials, like cardboard and plastic. Say what?

Lee told WWD, “When I started working on the collection with them, they were very open to my opinions. I’m very particular in terms of the color, the material and even when it comes to snaps and zippers, I didn’t want to sacrifice any ideas that I began with. The production went really smoothly."

While the collection he presented may not exactly be ready-to-wear for everyone, I can see how H&M can develop his pieces into more wearable items. Lee plans to show his first full collection at men's fashion week in Paris in January. I can't wait to see what he has in store for that! I think Kanye feels the same way.
