Elektra Has A Masked Debut In 'Daredevil' Season 2

Just as you were done fawning over all of the Jessica Jones promos that have been popping up online this week, Marvel unleashed some exciting new footage at New York Comic-Con. Attendees of the Netflix panel got a first look at The Punisher and Elektra in Daredevil Season 2. There are some mild spoilers if you keep reading, but feel free to stick with me as we delve into the footage, the panel, and what it means for the upcoming season of Daredevil.

First and foremost, fans saw Elodie Yung as Elektra putting on her famous red mask. This character, thanks in part to the Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner films, has been anticipated since the beginning of the Marvel series. The comic book character Elektra Natchios is a common ally, love interest, and even enemy for Matt Murdock. Elektra was mentioned in Season 1 as "that Greek girl" who Matt took a Spanish class to spend time with in law school and briefly dated. The footage also included a first look at Jon Bernthal as The Punisher, walking away in a hospital (fingers crossed that Claire is on shift) from Karen as she looked at what appears to be an x-ray of a skull. Comic book fans know that the skull is on brand for The Punisher, an anti-hero from Marvel comics who also wants to stomp crime in New York City. His nontraditional ways and vigilante attitude have made him a fan favorite, and Jon Bernthal is prepared to take on the challenge that is bringing Frank Castle to life on Netflix.

“I know how important this character is to you guys and I know how important this show is to you guys and I know how important he is to law enforcement ad the military and I look at this as a huge honor, a huge responsibility and I give you my absolute word that I’m going to give you everything I have.”

We also saw Foggy and Karen at a funeral. I'm hoping that isn't Wesley's funeral, but we'll have to wait to find out. Finally, the footage included a classic Matt Murdock confession scene. He asked why he still felt guilty. The priest responded with “Guilt can be good. It’s the soul’s call to action... indication that your work is not yet finished.” If that's not also a "call" for Season 2 of a series to begin, I don't know what is. Watch the teaser below.

Plus, the addition of these two new comic book characters will make Daredevil Season 2 even better than the first! The creators promised a "darker, more emotional, more intense" season this time around, which is difficult to believe, but I'm pumped.
