Wait, Did Kanye West Audition For 'American Idol'?

To call Kanye West a "go-getter" would be an understatement. After all, he recently added the titles of Presidential Hopeful and Overprotective Father (after North downloaded too many in-app purchases) to his résumé. He's taking on Washington D.C. and the App Store all at the same time. In case that's not enough to keep him busy, he decided to throw the job of Prankster into the mix. On Saturday, video surfaced of Kanye West auditioning for American Idol, and it was kind of genius. Naturally his proud wife, Kim Kardashian, came along for the ride.

So how did the audition go? Everybody knows those American Idol judges can be a bit brutal. According to a video on Twitter, West sang "Gold Digger" (arguably his best song, in my opinion). And guess what? They loved it! Ryan Seacrest later shared a picture of West holding a coveted golden ticket. Looks like he's going to Hollywood!

... OK, OK. This was presumably just a joke and he likely isn't really participating in the singing competition, but it's still in good fun. I bet if Simon Cowell was still a judge, even he wouldn't be able to resist cracking a smile. And know what? It's a good thing West isn't an actual contestant, or honestly no one else would stand a chance. Plus, I think sticking to one TV show at a time (aka Keeping Up With the Kardashians) is enough for anyone's plate — even someone as ambitious as West.

The new and final season of American Idol will air in January 2016. We'll probably have to wait until then to see West's full audition, but in the meantime, enjoy the clip below. Judge Jennifer Lopez seems very into it, especially her name drop in the song. (Who wouldn't appreciate getting a shoutout in a Yeezy verse?)

Overall, this prank shows that Kanye has a great sense of humor and doesn't take himself too seriously. And hey, if Kanye West does wind up running for President — because as we've learned from Donald Trump's campaign, anything is possible — he'll be an American Idol in a whole other sense of the words.

Whatever winds up happening, one thing is for sure: Kim Kardashian will be by West's side, proudly snapping Instagrams along the way.
