The Many Recent Dark Times For The Kardashians

by Jaclyn Anglis

It is a tough time to be a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Though people typically associate the family members with living a life of luxury, leisure, and looking lovely for the camera, it is undeniable that they are struggling with some emotionally turbulent situations. The news of Khloé Kardashian's ex-husband Lamar Odom being hospitalized after being found unconscious in a brothel is just the latest heartbreak that the family is grappling with this year. Bustle has reached out to Odom's rep for comment, but has not yet heard back

As you might have heard, the former basketball player was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The owner of Love Ranch South, Dennis Hof claimed in an interview with Us Weekly that the 35-year-old came to brothel on Oct. 10 “wanting to get away and have some fun.” Hof said he saw no signs of drugs, but claimed Odom "was taking herbal viagra."

The Nye County Sheriff's Office confirmed that a call from the ranch came in to their dispatch center on the afternoon of Oct. 13, requesting an ambulance for Odom. After being taken to a local hospital, the former NBA player was transported to a hospital in Las Vegas for treatment. His publicist said in a statement to Us, "Family and friends are extremely concerned for Lamar. Please don't listen to the false information being circulated unofficially. Please respect the family's privacy during this difficult time." This entire situation is extremely worrisome and upsetting, and it is just the latest in a string of depressing situations for the Kardashian-Jenner family.

After all, this heart-wrenching situation is happening not long after a nearly decade-long relationship has ended in the family. Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick ended their relationship in July soon after photos surfaced of Disick canoodling with an ex-girlfriend. Disick has been open about his struggles with alcohol and partying, topics that were often covered on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. In the aftermath of the pair's split, reports have come forward claiming that Disick is back to his drinking and irresponsible ways. While it seems like Kourtney made the right decision for herself and the couple's three children, it could not have been an easy choice to make. Any end to a long-term relationship is emotionally taxing, so add cameras to the situation and it gets exponentially worse.

This is also happening not long after the family has gone through dark times with another family member, Rob Kardashian. The reality star has been out of the spotlight for several months as he allegedly battles what is thought to be depression. Recently, Kris Jenner told E! that her son was doing "OK" and working on getting better, but the pathway to health can always be a difficult one. And, as has been seen on the family's reality show, Rob's current state is taking a toll on other members of the family, as well.

The Kardashian-Jenner family is incredibly polarizing, and it's almost impossible not to have an opinion about them and the things that they do. But regardless of what your personal opinion is, clearly the family is going through some troubled times, which is something that really puts things in perspective. Like any other family, they, too, have to face issues and hardships, they just do so on a much larger platform.
