These Halloween Movies Are Perfect For Oct. 31

There are plenty of reasons to stay in and watch a good horror movie on Halloween. For starters, there’s something extra spooky about snuggling up with some popcorn and some scream-worthy entertainment on Oct. 31. It’s also a great strategy to avoid being put on candy duty for trick-or-treaters — like, you’re not just going to get up to answer the door when you’re in the middle of a jump scene. Finally, it’s a fantastic way to save the $100+ you would have otherwise spent on a costume to be worn literally once. And while you’re already being thrifty choosing a movie night as your Halloween activity, you can save even more money by getting your entertainment for free. That’s right, there are tons of scary Halloween movies to stream on Oct. 31, right in time for the holiday. You just have to know where to look.

An obvious first go-to is Netflix. The popular site has tons of horror movies available for streaming, including some very famous classics. But other options include Hulu, HBO Go, and Amazon Prime, all of which have their own impressive collection of titles for scream-seekers to browse. Check out the below films to help you plan a scary good lineup for your own Halloween movie marathon.

1. Scream

The '90s cult favorite is available for streaming on Netflix. And if that doesn't quench your thirst, Scream 2 and 3 are available, too.

2. Children Of The Corn

Head over to Hulu to watch the first in this terrifying series of horror films, which will make you seriously reconsider ever having children.

3. The Babadook

This was one of the most fearsome movies of 2014. So fearsome, in fact, that I haven't worked up the nerve to watch it on Netflix. But you can.

4. Blade

Wesley Snipes remains the most badass (if not the only) human-vampire superhero to make it to the big screen — and now, HBO Go.

5. Rosemary's Baby

This classic horror film about a woman who is impregnated with the spawn of Satan is incredibly eerie... but man, Mia Farrow's pixie cut is spot on. Watch the movie on Netflix for proof.

6. The Blair Witch Project

The infamous found-footage film is available for free streaming with your Amazon Prime account. And then when you inevitably end up unable to sleep that night, you can stream 7th Heaven on Amazon Prime, too.

7. Silence Of The Lambs

If you get too creeped out watching this freaky film on Netflix, just remember that the girl in the well grew up to be Dr. Hahn on Grey's Anatomy. Yes, seriously.

8. Dawn Of The Dead

There are those who would argue to the death that this adaptation by Zack Synder doesn't hold a candle to George Romero's 1974 classic, but the 2004 zombie movie is still pretty damn scary. Check it out on HBO Go.

So get some candy corn and some yoga pants and settle in for a horrifically happy Halloween. There's nothing that could interfere with this night...right?
