Kendall Jenner-Inspired Halloween Costume Ideas

by Renata Certo-Ware

There are about 364 days of the year that I wish I dressed like Kendall Jenner, and now that she's doing even more super-stylized runway work, I can round that number out with a chic, Kendall Jenner-inspired Halloween look, as well. Jenner's model-off-duty looks are perfection — I mean, her mile long legs and torso are practically designed for crop tops and jeans — but they're not exactly bold enough for All Hallow's Eve, IMO. And while she rocks a gown (up-to-there slit included, natch) like nobody's business, her red carpet looks are more Costume Institute than costume party.

So for some costume inspiration, I turned to her recent runway looks for ideas, and thankfully, there's no shortage of easy-to-recreate outfits that will help you weed out the fellow fashion fans at this year's Halloween party.

While these are based on high fashion looks from Balmain and Chanel runways, you don't need to break the bank (or break into the designer's studios, since these looks aren't even in stores yet) to wear them. Just grab a paint brush and some glue, slick your hair into a high pony, and practice your best runway walk.

This look will require some serious chutzpah and a steady hand to recreate, but it'll be so worth it. First, snag a beige bodysuit. You can find these in many costume shops, but they're even easier to find online. Amazon has several options, like this long-sleeved unitard for around $35. (It also has a really cute scoop-back.)

Use brown fabric paint to achieve the bustier/pant effect like the Balmain runway piece. Using masking tape to as a guide will take some of the guesswork out of it, so spend some time before hand making sure you've got it right. Lay the unitard flat or ask a friend to tape it up while you're wearing it — just be sure to take it off before you paint so the paint doesn't get onto your skin.

A good choice for paint is DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Acrylic Paint, $1.50 for a 1.15 fl.oz bottle. You'll probably need a few bottles for the full look.

To really channel Jenner, don't skimp on bronzed cheeks.

The NYX Wonder Stick ($12) will work wonders, giving you Jenner-worthy highlights and contouring:

And don't forget accessories! A gold choker from Asos will do the trick ($14):

And a waist-cinching brown belt:

Like this Baba O'Reilly belt from Nasty Gal for $25.

For this look, I'd suggest hitting up a vintage boutique for a white satin suit like this double-breasted number from the Chanel Haute Couture show in July. Another option is white satin pajamas, like this satin PJ set from Kohls, $42. Added benefit: You could sleep in your costume.

For the veil, simply pin on a few yards of tulle. Order a ream of five yards or so, and gather it at the middle, securing it to the suit with a few pins on each shoulder.

If you're handy with a needle, add a couple stitches to the top to achieve the drapey look from the runway.

For makeup, all you really need is a strong brow (I'm talking Delevingne strong) so grab a brow pencil like this retractable one from the Sephora Collection, $12.

You'll also need a red lip. Spring for a Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in red, $36, for authenticity:

Any black suit will do, along with a wide black tie, a diamond pin, and fingerless gloves. Slap some powder into your date's hair (well, warn them, first) and you're good to go.

Et voila, as Lagerfeld might say. These costumes may not scare the neighborhood kids, but they are scary chic.
