Taylor Loves To Quote Her Lyrics On Social Media

by Maggie Malach

There’s a very good chance that in the past year, you’ve referenced Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” at least once. (But if you’re anything like me, that number is closer to 100.) It’s totally understandable. After all, Swift recruited her A-team to star in the epic visual, meaning it was all over the radio and social media. Of course, there was also the rumor that Katy Perry inspired “Bad Blood,” which only fueled the conversation. Add the fact that the song is super catchy, it’s not surprising that it’s officially entered the pop culture lexicon. Music fans aren’t the only ones dropping references to the song. Swift herself quoted “Bad Blood” in a recent Instagram post.

Swift captioned the photo “Band aids don't fix kitchen knife-related injuries.” Ouch. The picture shows her bandaged left thumb, which totally made me wince. While the song nod is totally relevant, given Swift’s goal of taking over the world, it’s certainly not the first time she’s referenced her lyrics on social media. In fact, Swift pretty regularly uses quotes her songs in photo captions or uses them as a commentary. (Some songs she even mentions more than once!)

You can check out the list below for nine times Swift referenced her own lyrics on social media.

1. "Welcome To New York"

Swift supported the Supreme Court's ruling that same-sex marriage is a constitutional right by quoting this 1989 track.

2. "Out Of The Woods"

Swift captioned this moment with Selena Gomez from the 2014 AMAs with lyrics from "Out of the Woods," writing, "The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color."

3. "Never Grow Up"

Swift kicked it old school with this nod to her 2010 song.

4. "Style"

I see what you did there, Swift.

5. "All Too Well"

Swift used a line from "All Too Well" to describe her reaction to performing with Madonna.

6. "Welcome To New York" (Again!)

Swift captioned a photo of herself reaching out to a fan with the line "Grab your passport ..and my hand."

7. "New Romantics"

Swift shot down tabloid rumors with this 1989 bonus track lyric.

8. "Out Of The Woods" (Yet Another Time)

Swift shared a snap of herself with the phrase "Screaming color."

9. "Style" (Another Repeat Offender)

Swift even noted her consistent use of lyrics in this tweet.

Of course, if you're as talented a songwriter as Swift, it's totally okay to quote yourself at random.
