Prepare to be impressed, terrified and straight up amazed, all at once. Yesterday, a kitten rescued from a busy intersection has a heroic woman named Laney (who told BuzzFeed she wishes to only be mentioned by her first name) to thank. And we have her to thank for uploading the video of the harrowing moment, wherein she puts herself in harms way to save a stranded kitten who is stuck in the middle of a busy intersection. She is able to successfully halt traffic long enough to rescue the cat, all while catching it on camera because, hey, video or it didn't happen.
Laney spotted the frantic feline while stopped at a stoplight on her motorcycle. (Honestly, could this woman be anymore badass if she tried? Don’t answer that. The answer is no.) Out of nowhere—Laney assumes the kitten fell out from under a red car—a cat appears in the middle of the street. In a statement to BuzzFeed, she said, “[The driver] has my number if it turns out he was her cat.”
In the meantime, Laney has a new furry friend to call her own, whom she has aptly named “Skidmark.” She’s posted updates on the cat's condition, letting fans know that “the dork is happy and home” and "all is well!"
Superwoman? Laney? To-may-to, to-mah-to at this point.
And because I don’t like experiencing extreme moments of overwhelming stress all by my lonesome, I ask that you follow me on a journey through Laney’s triumph and Skidmark’s rescue. And yes, it does help to know that this story has a happy ending.
It all begins on a seemingly normal day. Laney pulls up to a stoplight on her bike, like the absolute boss she is...
But if you look closely, you can see a tiny dot attempting to dodge traffic. It's just hard to tell what that little dot actually is.
And it was for Laney too, who later said that she initially thought the kitten was a leaf. Luckily, she realizes the dot is an animal and puts her hand up, instructing traffic to stop.
Lane then drive her motorcycle into oncoming traffic, because she fears nothing...
...And gets off her motorcycle to save the kitten from inevitable doom...
And in one self-less swoop, the kitten is rescued!
Laney even left her motorcycle in the middle of the road, making sure the kitten was safe and sound before returning to it.
It's safe to say, we all have a new hero. She's not the hero we deserve, but she's the one we (and Skidmark) need right now.
