Great Scott, Look Who's Back!

by Melissah Yang

Time is a relative thing, and no one knows it best than the guys who actually time traveled in the classic Back To The Future trilogy. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015 (the day traveled to in the second film), Jimmy Kimmel went "back to the future" with a little help from Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, who stopped by Kimmel's late-night show during its week-long taping in Brooklyn, New York. The actors arrived in full character as Marty McFly and Doc Brown in none other than, Great Scott!, a silver DeLorean.

During Kimmel's monologue, the famed car drove onto set to loud audience applause and cheers. Doc Brown and Marty McFly pondered out loud whether how far society has come along as the films imagined. But sadly no, there are no flying cars, no hoverboards (at least not ones that hover for real), and no peace in the Middle East. “If you don’t mind my asking, what the hell have you guys been doing for 30 years?” Marty asked. “Doc, it seems like 2015 kind of sucks.”

So, Kimmel took it upon himself to educate the time travelers in the latest innovations — cronuts, selfies, and smart phones — as well as the latest news, meaning yes, Donald Trump is running for president.

Fox, who was scheduled as Kimmel's first guest, later appeared as himself and showcased his Nike Back To The Future shoes that, at a push of a button, lace up on their own. The shoe company will produce a limited supply and auction them off, with proceeds going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

The surprise drop-ins were the perfect cap to the what has been an eventful Back To The Future Day. And now that we're officially living in the future, cheers to the adventures that lie ahead. Check out the full Kimmel bit below!
