Take A Look At This Year's Starbucks Red Cups

by Eliza Castile

Rejoice, for the Starbucks gods have smiled upon us! "But Claire, what could possibly be better than the beloved Pumpkin Spice Latte?" you're no doubt wondering, to which I have one answer: Red holiday Starbucks cups. They may not seem like much on the outside, but the cups are more than just mere caffeine dispensers, vitally important as that function may be. Holiday cups are a sign that the holiday season, aka the unironic best time of the year, is just around the corner, and I can't think of any better way to start my morning.

Because the 'Bux knows what its customers want — PSLs and an extra-long holiday season, natch — the company announced that it will be launching the beloved holiday cups in "some of Europe's most recognizable shopping destinations" on Oct. 22. One of the hallmarks of Starbucks' holiday cups is the unique designs each year, which has featured ornaments, snowflakes, reindeer and whimsical whirly-things (I'm not a designer, just bear with me) in the past. This year, however, they went in a more minimalist direction with their design.

"In the past, we have told stories with our holiday cups designs,” Vice President of Design and Content Jeffrey Fields said in a press release. “This year we wanted to usher in the holidays with a purity of design that welcomes all of our stories."

Let's take a look, shall we?

It looks like Starbucks is as big a fan of ombre as Jared Leto was in 2013. Aren't we all?

Many see the early release of the holiday cups as a cause for celebration:

Because hey, even though it's still only October, the positivity of the holiday season is still a delightful thing.

Unfortunately we still have to wait a few more weeks to get our Eggnog Latte fixes; holiday drinks won't be sold worldwide until early November, according to a press release. But that's fine with me — I'll just fill the void left by my lack of Chestnut Praline Lattes with a bunch of holiday music. If Starbucks can get into the holiday spirit early, why can't I?
