Kate Winslet Stands Up Against Photo Retouching

by Eliza Florendo

Oh, Kate Winslet — Has anyone ever embodied style and grace quite like she has? This is exactly why she makes the perfect role model for young women, which she confirmed when Kate Winslet took a stand against photo retouching. Major kudos to Winslet, who attributed this decision to the responsibility she feels she has for the younger generation.

Beyond this consciousness, she's already an amazing woman to look up to. She's a successful, professional actress that was in the freaking Titanic for God's sake! Winslet broke our hearts in Revolutionary Road and made us weep in The Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Every single project she does turns into gold. All with unflinching elegance. Beyond showing young women how successful they can truly be, she's taken a stand against retouching photos and staying true to her purest self.

In an interview with E! News' Catt Sadler at the Elle Women In Hollywood event, Winslet said, "I can only ever speak for myself and I can only ever do things that are important to me and it's a hope that other people might follow suit but it does feel important to me because I do think we have a responsibility to the younger generation of women." Boom.

Winslet goes on to explain how young people often look to magazines and the media, and look at women that are successful in their industries. To these people, Winslet "would always want to be telling the truth about who [she] is to the generation because they've got to have strong leaders." She went on to say "We're all responsible for raising strong young women, so these are the things that are important to me."

And how will she do that, exactly? By making it clear that her L'Oréal contract says that her Lancôme ads will not be edited to change her appearance. Bustle has reached out to L'Oreal for comment and is awaiting response.

This isn't the first time that Winslet has brought up the dangers of retouching. She's always been an advocate for keeping your photos natural, all thanks to her daughter. At the screening of Steve Jobs at the New York Film Festival this past weekend, Kate Winslet said, "Because I don't want my daughter to look at those image an say, 'Wow, you really look like that?' It's so dishonest. And I can't deal with that."

*Slow clap* for Kate Winslet. And, with that, I'll leave you with some of her most inspirational quotes.
