Teaser Clips For Adele's "Hello" Is Straight Fire

by April Siese

Adele is back! The songstress took a much needed hiatus in 2012 following her contribution to the James Bond canon á là "Skyfall," had a baby boy and is now returning to music with the lead single off her forthcoming album 25. It was an Instagram announcement that cemented her return, Adele having joined the platform for the first time on Thursday. The music video for her first single off 25 is set to be released on Friday at midnight PT. So far there have been countless teasers for Adele's song "Hello," which has only upped the anticipation, but what's been seen so far is straight fire through and through.

The video is directed by Xavier Dolan, an actor and director perhaps best known portraying Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. Could there be some type of crossover? It's doubtful, but the simply enchanting clips I've seen of "Hello" certainly point to some type of magic. The video is mostly sepia and makes stunning use of shadows and light. Even Adele's voice sounds a little more distant and forlorn than her anger-driven efforts on her 2011 highly acclaimed breakthrough record 21. She's plumbing the depths of her emotions like a phoenix rising from the ash.

25 is what the singer is calling a make-up record, a major departure from 21's breakup vibe. "25 is about getting to know who I've become without realizing. And I'm sorry it took so long but, you know, life happened," Adele said in a letter penned to her fans and released on Twitter on Wednesday. She added:

I'm making up with myself. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did. But I haven't got time to hold on to the crumbs of my past like I used to. Whats done is done. Turning 25 was a turning point for me... I made the decision to go into becoming who I'm going to be forever.

Adele fans need wait no more however. 25 is set to be released on Nov. 20 and "Hello" is dropping at 11:30 p.m. PT, followed by its music video premiering at midnight. It only makes sense that a stronger, more self-empowered Adele would drop a video at the start of a new day, effectively turning the page to a whole new sound and style. I can't wait for the next chapter in Adele's career.
