7 Pairs Of Tights You Need If You're Always Cold

by Melanie Richtman

Fall and winter are nice, but they tend to wreak havoc on your available clothing options. When you are forced to cover every inch of your skin to avoid succumbing to frost bite, it makes you seriously reconsider putting on a cute dress in favor of a pair of jeans — or, if you're anything like me and live in a frozen tundra like Minnesota, a pair of leggings and a pair of jeans — just so you can be sure that your legs will stay warm. Frankly, I'd wear snow pants every day during winter if I could. But, sometimes, you really just want to wear that cute dress you bought. As someone who is always cold, warm tights are a winter necessity.

And a regular pair of tights just won't cut it. While you can trick yourself into thinking that the very thin layer of nylon between your bare skin and the frigid air is doing something to keep you warm, the fact of the matter is that you probably need a pair of tights with a little more weight in order to rationalize going outside in your pretty dress or shorts and boots. I would recommend investing in some wool tights or a pair of fleece-lined tights to help get you through the winter months.

Here are seven pairs of warm tights you need to get you through the next few months.

1. These fleece-lined tights from Topshop

Fleece Lined Tights, $2, Top Shop

These simple black tights will become your winter staple.

2. These wool tights from J.Crew Factory

Wool makes everything warmer, right?

3. These footed leggings from L.L. Bean

Something about the name "footed leggings" just makes these sound way warmer than your basic tights. These are also fleece-lined, so that definitely helps.

4. These gray ones from Target

Fleece-Lined Tights , $5, Target

These gray tights give the illusion of being sheer, but they're actually lined with fleece, they're super affordable and they come in several colors.

5. These heavy-duty SmartWool tights

Women's Celestial Sky Tights, $47, Smart Wool

SmartWool is known for its warm winter gear and these tights are no different. I like the pattern of these, but they also have several other cute pairs with different patterns and colors, along with plain black versions.

6. These tights from Urban Outfitters

Fleece Lined Full Tights , $8, Urban Outfitters

These fleece-lined tights come in solid black, solid gray and ribbed black.

7. These sweater tights from GAP

Wide Ribbed Sweater Tights , $20, Gap

Way better than a basic pair of sheer tights.
