What's In Starbucks' Spooky Frappula Frappuccino?

by Jessica Learish

Here's a spooky treat! Starbucks is celebrating Halloween by dressing up its white chocolate mocha Frappuccino as Count Dracula himself. Just in time for the scariest day of the year, the coffee chain is rolling out a Frappula Frappuccino, a blended Halloween beverage that features a drizzle of bright red on a white blended frappy backdrop. It's pretty to look at, for sure, but, uh, what's in Starbucks' Frappula Frappuccino, exactly? Allow me to break down this frightfully delicious treat.

For starters, it's a Frappuccino, which means this beverage is obviously served cold. The beverage hits stores Oct. 28, and is the perfect drink for people who are spending Halloween week someplace where the weather hasn't gotten too chilly just yet. As for the ingredients? They all come together to form a drink that's just as much a work of art as it is a treat. First, your barista will add a thin layer of chocolatey mocha sauce to the bottom of your cup, followed by a dollop of whipped cream. Then comes a serving of white chocolate mocha Frappuccino, which makes up the majority of the beverage and provides the bright white backdrop for what comes next. The Frappula blood effect is created by lining the inside rim of the cup with red raspberry syrup, and finally the whole thing is topped with whipped cream. See? I told you it was good.

The Frappula Frappuccino will only be available through Nov. 1, so grab your cloak and costume fangs, because the ladies of Team Edward will be lining up in droves for this Instagram-worthy dose of caffeine.

Is this vampy beverage caffeinated?

Why, yes it is. According to a Starbucks spokesperson, the fancy blended crème beverage has five milligrams of caffeine, but if you want to add a shot of espresso to up your intake, that's certainly doable. It will provide a nice pick-me-up even if you generally sleep through the day in a coffin-shaped bed.

What if I have dietary restrictions?

After a bit of research, I've discovered that the Frappula Frappuccino is in fact totally gluten-free. You can order the drink with soy milk and no whip, although the white mocha syrup used is unfortunately not vegan.

Is it too cold outside to drink Frappuccinos?

If you haven't checked the weather, parts of the East Coast can expect highs of 70 degrees later this week, which means you frapp fans can definitely enjoy this drink without having to sit on a radiator or wear extra layers. Sounds like a win-win to me!
