So, Mariah Carey Taught Gisele English

by Christine DiStasio

Well move over, Rosetta Stone. Gisele Bündchen stopped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on Monday night and apparently she had some unconventional and surprising language teachers when she moved to New York City in the '90s — Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men. Seriously. The Brazilian-born supermodel recalled how her cassette tapes "saved her life" by helping her to learn English as a 16 year-old aspiring model. Bündchen even broke into song when the Late Night host asked her about her favorite jams — proof that she's definitely had a few song lyrics stuck in her had for at least two decades.

Mrs. Tom Brady also told Fallon, "They were great teachers, so I have to thank them one day if I ever meet them in person. They were very inspiring." We find it a little difficult to find Carey's "Fantasy" inspiring but we can't help but agree with Bündchen calling Boyz II Men's music "beautiful, soft-spoken word."

The model also revealed that she's working hard to teach her 4 year-old son with Patriot's quarterback Tom Brady, Benjamin, her native Portuguese by speaking to him exclusively in the language. She even tells her son that she can't understand him when he speaks English to promote his fluency — talk about tough love learning. But as for her husband, the model jokes that he speaks only two languages (neither of which are Portuguese), "Football and English."

But back to those song lyrics — if Gisele spent most of her teen years learning English from Mariah and the Boyz, she's definitely had these five hit lyrics stuck in her head for the past two decades and will for the rest of eternity.

"Fantasy" — Mariah Carey

Sweet sweet fantasy babyWhen I close my eyesYou come and take meOn and on and onIt's so deep in my daydreamsBut it's just a sweet sweet fantasy baby

"A Song For Mama" — Boyz II Men

Mama, mama, you know I love youOh you know I love youMama, mama, you're the queen of my heartYour love is like tears from the starsMama, I just want you to knowLovin' you is like food to my soul

(She actually sang this on Late Night — thus proving our theory that it's permanently stuck in her head.)

"Always Be My Baby" — Mariah Carey

You'll always be a part of meI'm part of you indefinitelyBoy don't you know you can't escape meOoh darling 'cause you'll always be my baby

"End Of The Road" — Boyz II Men

When I can't sleep at night without holding you tightGirl, each time I try I just break down and cryPain in my head oh I'd rather be deadSpinnin' around and aroundAlthough we've come to the End Of The RoadStill I can't let you goIt's unnatural, you belong to me, I belong to youCome to the End of the Road

"One Sweet Day" — Mariah Carey feat. Boyz II Men

And I know you're shining down on me from heavenLike so many friends we've lost along the wayAnd I know eventually we'll be togetherOne sweet day

Leave it up to the model that ended "Heroin Chic" to have just put an end to people using Rosetta Stone to learn English — Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey are about to see a boom in sales.
