This Is Like a Weird 'Breaking Bad' Storyline

by Rachel Krantz

At least they didn't dine and dash? An Oregon couple kept it classy when they tried to tip their waitress in meth last Thursday. Oregon Live reports that the waitress didn't exactly appreciate the gesture:

Ryan Bensen, 40, and Erica Manley, 37, spent Thursday night having dinner and drinks at the Twisted Fish Steakhouse, said Seaside Police Chief Robert Gross.
When it came time to settle their tab, the cash-strapped couple first plunked down a gift card to pay their bill, Gross said. Later, they offered their waitress an envelope with a question mark scribbled on it.
Inside the envelope the waitress found a stash of crystal meth, authorities said.
“She was like ‘Whoa -- what the …?’” said Steve Keszler, a manager at the downtown steakhouse. “We’re not a little dive bar or hole in the wall. We’re a classy place.”

When the restaurant reported the incident, police obtained a search warrant for the couple's room — and (SPOILER ALERT) — uncovered a meth lab.

Meanwhile in classy news Wednesday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is in trouble. In leaked emails obtained by the New York Times, it appears that the governor purposefully closed the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge in an effort to retaliate against the mayor of Fort Lee Mark Sokolich. (Sokolich didn't endorse Christie for reelection.)

Mr. Christie has insisted that his staff and his campaign office had nothing to do with the local lane closings, and said that they were done as part of a traffic study.
But the emails show that Bridget Anne Kelly, a deputy chief of staff in Mr. Christie’s office, gave a signal to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to close the lanes about two weeks before the closings occurred.
“Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee,” she emailed David Wildstein, Mr. Christie’s close friend from high school, and one of his appointees at the Port Authority, which controls the bridge.

Or the bridge. That works too.

Temperatures are beginning to warm up today, but we're guessing idiots who post themselves peeing in -50 degree weather will find a way to stick around past the polar vortex.

TEDx speaker Lizzie Valasquez gave an (ironic? meta?) Ted Talk about how Ted Talks are basically worthless.

And finally, watch Orange is the New Black 's Laverene Cox classily shut down totally tone-deaf questions from Katie Couric about her gender.
