'90s Trends That Really Shouldn't Come Back

The 1990s was a legendary decade of style that popularized some of our favorite trends, many of which have made recent comebacks; namely chokers, plaid, and transparent handbags. However, there are also some embarrassing '90s trends I definitely don't want to see on the racks at the mall again. The '90s gave us many things we hold dear to our heart, but these aren't those things.

Sure, tattoo chokers were a fabulous '90s trend that girls from all gangs flaunted — whether you were a cheerleader or a goth, there were colors to suit every style. Crimped hair was also huge and everyone from Lizzie McGuire to Christina Aguilera was rocking this unique 'do. Another '90s trend that returned with a fashionable vengeance and which I personally can't get enough of is plaid. Made popular by classic '90s movies like Clueless and The Craft, plaid is forever chic, since it can be worn all year round and styled to suit an array of different ensembles.

Today, however, we are going to travel back in time and open the vault of horrendous '90s trends which you may have forgotten about. Hopefully these cringe worthy trends will never see the light of day again. Are you ready?

1. Slap Bracelets

Dazzling Toys Hearts/Animal Print Slap Bracelets - Pack of 25, $7.49, amazon.com

Remember this beauts? And how hardcore you thought you were by maniacally and repetitively slapping these bad boys onto your wrist, a table leg, or anything cylindrical? We knew how to live life on the edge — the very painful, welt-y edge.

2. Skirts Over Pants

I don't really know what godforsaken hole this trend crawled out of but I want it banished there forever. Why did we think it was attractive to wear mini skirts over pants? Maybe because we millennials were brought up thinking we could do or be anything, included make insane style choices.

3. Stick-On Earrings

Fruit Stick-On Earrings, $4.50, claires.com

I cannot believe these still exist. As a kid, stick-on earrings were a godsend to my un-pierced lobes. Despite my fear of needles, I could fit in with my peers with these cute stickers. OK, maybe I do want these to come back, I just don't think they're quite suited for adult life.

4. Popper Trousers

Vintage Trousers Pants Adidas Popper (32) Tracksuit Bottom Blue White Adibreak, approx $15.39, ebay.com

One minute you were wearing full length tracksuit bottoms and the next you were running around with your pants flapping across your legs. So cool.

5. The Popcorn Shirt

Gourmet Popcorn - Long Sleeve, $18, amazon.com

Memories of my friends and I wearing these shirts make me want to be swallowed up by the ground. It appears we loved the Goosebumps series so much that we wanted to emulate the creatures from it.

6. Fanny Packs

Ellesse Fanny Pack, $45, asos.com

OK, listen, I know some of you don't agree with me on this, but I am so down to leave fanny packs in the past. Fanny packs ranged from the neon to the sporty and everything in between. They were worn by everyone: The cool kids at school, your teachers on a school trip, and your grandparents on vacation. These days, I much prefer a chic crossbody.

7. Patterned Windbreakers

Jacket, $31.30, marketplace.asos.com

Clearly a leftover trend from the 1980s, the patterned windbreaker was seen on the likes of TV stars such as the Saved by the Bell cast. I want to gather together all of the abstract patterned and neon windbreakers of the world and burn them on a huge bonfire.

8. Enormously Baggy Jeans

Baggy jeans drowned you in denim and gave you a tough street edge because of their link to skater kids. As much as I liked baggy jeans at the time, I did not like dragging around the dangling, disgusting threads of the bottoms of my jeans. What was I thinking?!

9. Toe Rings

Wire Toe Ring, $4.74+, etsy.com

Why anyone would want to walk around feeling uncomfortable all day and then try to yank off a piece of metal from their sweaty foot is just beyond me.

Although there are many reasons to love the '90s, these trends certainly don't make the list!
