7 Trends That Are Just As Good As Your Bed Sheets

by Natalie Turco-Williams

From the '70s revival to block heels, there’s no doubt fall 2015 fashion trends are extremely lust-worthy. But with winter fast approaching, I think we can all agree that your cozy bed sheets completely trump getting up and actually putting clothes on. Wouldn't it be great if our comforters were acceptable outerwear? Just imagine sitting in the office snuggled up in your duvet, drinking some egg nog (it’s never too early) and doing your work while the rest of your co-workers shiver in their co-ords and pleated skirts. Sadly, though, the duvet has yet to make its ultimate ready-to-wear fashion debut. This completely underrated fashion accessory has only ever been inspiration for couture looks and the Margiela x H&M collection which featured a duvet coat.

You would think, though, with the amount of times pajamas have been a key fashion trend there would be a glimmer of hope for the future of the bed sheet look that doesn’t involve cutting out two eye holes and screaming “boo” at strangers. I suppose we’ll just have to wait until another designer brings back the duvet look or leaving the house in your own bed sheets actually becomes socially acceptable (I’m keeping my fingers crossed). Until then, here are some of the best fall trends that are just as good as your bed sheets.

1. Faux Fur Vest

Longline Faux Fur Vest in Natural, $99.00, ASOS Curve

Luckily for us, the faux fur vest is trendy for yet another season. Just throw it on over a long-sleeved T-shirt or sweater and you’re pretty much good to go. Not only will the fur make you feel like you’re back at home snuggled up in your throw blanket, but is an instant fashion statement that will take your outfit from cute to Instagram worthy. If you’re not a faux fur kinda person, you can always opt for the less fluffier version made out of faux suede (this one from Target is awesome) which is just as warm and stylish.

2. Poncho

Printed Poncho with fringe, $39.99, Target

The poncho is by far the closest you’ll get to wrapping yourself up in a blanket at work without looking weird. Pair it with a nice pair of jeans, some suede or leather boots and a plain top for a chic and really cozy look. Plus, if you’re not into having your arms constricted, there are so many different cuts of the poncho to choose from this year — from the classic over-arm style to the wrap-style.

3. Layering Turtlenecks

Fine-knit Turtleneck Sweater, $34.99, H&M+

You can’t really go wrong with a long sleeve turtleneck layered underneath a sleeveless dress or leather overalls. What’s really awesome about this classic winter wardrobe staple is the variety of colors and patterns you can get this year. Personally I’m all about the classic black, gray, and rust colored ones but brighter hues and chic patterns are equally excellent options.

4. Longline Puffer Coat

A longline puffer coat is the closest you can get to wearing an actual duvet in public this season. The padding and long length are great for cuddling up in on your commute, plus they're incredibly stylish. Most puffers for sale this year come in neutral colors which makes them perfect for simply throwing on in the morning because they go with literally everything.

5. Geek Chic Chunky Knit

Marled Dolphin Hem Sweater, $29.90, Forever21+

This fall geek chic rates top of the class for trends so grab yourself a nice chunky knit and layer it over a shirt for a “back to school” look that’s not only cool but pretty damn cozy. With this look you can either buy it as a 2-in-1 where the jumper is attached to the shirt or buy them separately and style it up however you want.

6. Velvet Dress

Nineties fans rejoice: Velvet is actually one of the key trends for fall. Style it up for the night with a pair of heels and a clutch or tone it down with a pair of boots and beanie during the day. Either way, the softness of the velvet is great for staying warm and snuggling up to.

7. Loafers

Minkie Loafers, $51.00, ASOS

Loafers are the slippers of the flat shoe world and thankfully they're still on trend this fall. Pair them with your geek chic chunky knit or velvet print dress for a totally smart look that is stylish and will make you feel like you’ve been walking around in a pair of slippers all day. Talk about a total win.

There you have it: the best stylish alternatives to leaving the house in your bed sheets that are guaranteed to keep you cozy as the weather gets colder.
