Coldplay's New Single Is Perfect For Romantics

I've been a Coldplay fan since their very first album, Parachutes, and I've stayed with them ever since. It wasn't always easy (Ghost Stories was a bit of a rough patch for our relationship), but it's been worth it, and over the past 15 years, Coldplay has proven themselves to be one of the most talented, prolific bands out there. That's why the news that their new — and possibly last, but we won't even think about that right now — album, A Head Full Of Dreams , came as such a wonderful surprise. Not only that, but their new single, "Adventure Of A Lifetime," is so magical and wonderful that I'm really glad I've stuck with them over the years.

"Adventure Of A Lifetime" is simultaneously classic Coldplay, yet something totally new for the band. It's that surround-sound, larger-than-life sound we've come to expect from them with lyrics and melody that perfectly reflect what it's like to be full of wonder about the world around you because you've just met someone who's completely opened up the world around you. One listen to the song will have you feeling nostalgic for first love or just extra mushy about your current partner. Either way, it's a beautiful thing — let's take a look at the lyrics:

Under this pressure, under this weight

Love is pretty magical, isn't it? It can take a completely ordinary person and ordinary life and make it feel extraordinary, like... well, like magic, or like you're some kind of superhero. It also makes you feel like you're capable of absolutely anything, no matter how impossible or strange or over-the-top. Ah, ain't love grand?

Then there's that insane manic phase you get into when you fall in love that makes your whole body and mind come alive, like you're everything all at once, and it's just so good to be alive and in the world, and it's all because of this other person. Sigh.

Of course, the world isn't necessarily a place for lovers who prefer to live in a dream world, because this is the real world and that's tough sometimes. It's like when you're alone together, everything perfect and wonderful and as it's meant to be and nothing can stop you, but once you have to step back out into the real world, it's a major bummer.

At the end of the day, the only thing that's worth it is love. When you find someone that makes you feel this way so strongly and completely, it can feel like it's worth sacrificing everything for, and maybe it is. For now, we can let Coldplay sing about it and decide later.
