'Finding Dory' Features Some Old & New Voices

by Courtney Lindley

You shouldn't be surprised to learn that the newest trailer for Pixar's upcoming Finding Dory, looks just as amazing as its predecessor. After being promised a Finding Nemo spin off starring Dory for what felt like decades, we're finally seeing our dreams come true, as The Ellen Show premiered an exclusive trailer. The animated film, starring Ellen Degeneres as none other than the voice of Dory, is bringing back some old voices, and also introducing some new ones. But the real question is: will all the voice actors be back for Finding Dory ? It has been 13 (!!!) years after all.

Most importantly, I can confirm that Degeneres has stayed on board as the voice of Dory (the film just wouldn't work without that factor), and Albert Brooks as Marlin (Nemo's father) has returned. It actually looks like some of the original gang from Finding Nemo will be present in the film (Nemo's friend Ink, the Manta Ray, Mr. Ray, etc.), though, in the trailer, we don't get to hear them talk, so we can't deduce much from that. It also seems that, according to Finding Dory's IMDb page, these characters won't have huge roles (they aren't noted anywhere, yet). Mostly, the film will feature some impressive new voices, like Idris Elba, Diane Keaton, Ty Burrell, Dominic West, and Kaitlin Olsen, to name a few.

However, there's one new voice you probably won't recognize: The previous film's titular character, Nemo. That's because the young boy who played Nemo back in '03, Alexander Gould, has since grown into, well, not a boy anymore. Since Nemo, Gould has gone on to star most notably in Showtime's Weeds, and has landed other gigs in the TV sphere. The franchise welcomed newcomer, Hayden Rolence, to voice little Nemo instead.

The young actor only has a few short films under his belt, according to his IMDb page, so this is a huge move for his resume. Unlike Rolence, Gould had extensive acting experience before he signed on to play Nemo, so it will be interesting to see how Rolence does with the gig. (Though, of course, Nemo's spot in this film will be substantially smaller, as he's not the center of this particular narrative.)

Regardless of who's coming back and who's new, there's one thing we can all agree on: Thank goodness Degeneres has been on board the whole time. There just is no Dory without her, am I right?
