I'm the first one to make fun of a Lifetime movie. Always. I don't care who stars in it, what it's an adaptation of, or how great the production is — if it's on Lifetime, it's generally the worst. I say generally, though, because that doesn't seem to be the case this time! Judging by this new trailer for Flowers in the Attic , this movie might actually be good.
Starring Mad Men darling Kiernan Shipka, Heather Graham, and Ellen Burnstyn, Flowers in the Attic is an adaptation of the 1979 V.C. Andrews novel of the same name. The story, for lack of a better word, is really messed up: There's a ton of incest. As in, Shipka's character, Cathy, falls in love with her brother, Chris (Mason Dye), aaaaaand he loves her back. It's really icky, but, in any case, a really popular book back in the day.
The trailer, unlike most trailers, actually gives us a good idea of what to expect from the movie — and, surprisingly, it actually looks like this could be a good adaptation, and creepy enough to live up to the dark nature of the book.
Also worth noting: Should this movie do well, Lifetime is already working on developing a second film based on Andrews' book sequel, Pedals on the Wind, that will take place 10 years after the events of this film.
Flowers in the Attic will premiere on Jan. 18, at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime. Check out the trailer below.
