Say Goodbye to 'Boardwalk'

by Anna Klassen

Much rejoicing came out of Thursday's TCA panels, including the announcement of premiere date for Game of Thrones , and the news that Girls will be returning for a fourth season. But, amidst the clapping and cheering for the return of our favorite HBO shows, one will inevitably be leaving us: Boardwalk Empire will end after its fifth season. The Network announced the sad news during Thursday's Television Critics Association panel, but the president of HBO programming, Michael Lombardo, assured fans the show would leave on a high note.

“It has been an incredible honor to bring this powerful and groundbreaking series to our subscribers,” he said. “Terry Winter has created one for the ages.”

The show's executive producer Terrence Winter said, “We’re thrilled to get the go-ahead for a fifth season of Boardwalk Empire. After much discussion with my creative team and HBO, we’ve decided to wrap up the series after such a great run and look forward to bringing it to a powerful and exciting conclusion.”
