How To Keep Brows On Fleek This Winter

by Jessica Willingham

Brows are basically the VIP feature of your face. They can dramatically alter your look depending on their thickness, proximity, color, and, of course, shape. It's a lot of work, no doubt. If you're already feeling lazy about wearing makeup when the temperatures beging to drop, here's a quick and easy guide for how to keep brows full and on fleek for fall and winter.

Since bolder, bushier brows are back in style (versus the sad, sad Nike logos of the '90s), it seems like everyone is trying to grow out their brows. If you are, but aren't having luck, there is good news: Brow pencils and brow wax or gel can work wonders.

Winter is a great time to experiment with darker and bolder brow looks. If you want to amp up your brow game, but aren't sure how, here are a few simple tips. First, you want to make sure you're using a brow spoolie the right way. Celebrity makeup artist Marni Burton tells us you should always brush brows "up" before applying any color. This will help you see where the inconsistencies in your brow hairs are and better identify the natural shape of your brows. Remember, they're sisters, not twins. Your brows are likely not the same shape, and brushing them upward first will help you identify them.

Here are some brow products to help keep your brows on fleek when the temperatures start to drop.

1. Angled Brush

Morphe B45 Deluxe Angled Brush, $1.99, morphebrushes.com

Using a tiny angled brush can help you create natural looking "wisps" of color to fill in your brows. And for $2, it really doesn't get more affordable than Morphe Brushes.

2. Brow Powder

Milani Brow Fix Brow Kit, $6.99, drugstore.com

Brow kits are great, and you can experiment with different formulas like powders and gels. If you're on a budget, you can always use a range of brown or black eyeshadow you already have in your kit.

3. Clear Brow Gel

Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, $22.00, anastasiabeverlyhills.com

Have wild, thick hairs that never seem to stay in place? Clear brow gel will keep hairs in place. Clear gel is also a great option if you want a more natural look.

4. Colored Brow Gel

Benefit Gimme Brow, $24.00, benefitcosmetics.com

If you're intimidated by gels, powders, pencils and brushes, colored brow gel is a great way to fill in your brows without getting frazzled.

5. Eyebrow Pencil

IT Cosmetics Universal Brow Pencil, $24.00, ulta.com

I love brow pencils because they typically come in universal colors and with a spoolie, so it's an all-in-one product.

6. Brow Trimmers

Revlon Brow Set, $9.99, drugstore.com

Maybe you keep getting a wild hair or hairs that are messing up your brow game. Once you define your chosen shape, keep it in check by trimming versus plucking. Burton advises us to "trim brows weekly so they are consistently shaped." This will also help "avoid over plucking."

7. Gel Brow Kit

KISS Ever EZ Beautiful Brow Kit, $7.99, kissusa.com

This kit is great for beginners because as Burton points out, it's got everything you need, from a razor to a stencil.

8. Brow Enhancement Formula

StimulashFusion Brow Duo, $40, beauty.com

Burton also recommends using a brow enhancement formula, like FusionBeauty's StimulashFusion Brow Duo, if your eyebrows are too sparse for your liking or you tweezed them to oblivion on accident. It is "clinically proven to thicken, strengthen, and accelerate the natural lash enhancement process within 6 weeks."
