How To Rock A Maxi Skirt In The Winter

by Lindsey Rose Black

Your standard idea of winter clothing likely involves giant sweaters, long coats, big scarves, and knit hats, but there's a piece you might be forgetting to include: maxi skirts. That's right, good old flowy boho maxi skirts still deserve a spot in your closet this season and I've rounded up tons of winter-ready looks to show you how to wear maxi skirts in the winter while still staying warm.

There's something so effortlessly breezy-chic about maxi skirts, but they are often worn in the summer and forgotten about in the fall and winter. That's likely due to the fact that they are typically made from lighter material that wouldn't necessarily keep you as warm as, let's say, a pair of jeans. However, I personally love wearing them as often as possible, regardless of seasons! (I'm on the shorter side, so finding one that actually fits me without the fabric running way past my feet and making me look shorter is always a major victory.) The key? Like with any other winter garment, layering is crucial.

The looks below feature maxis made from a variety of fabrics, so you're good to go whether you're braving a chilly east coast winter or basically summer SoCal season. I've also scouted out a few maxis from bloggers for some extra winter maxi inspiration if you're running low on ideas.

1. Paired With Denim

If you live in a milder climate, all you need to take that maxi into winter is a cute denim jacket.

Boyfriend Trucker Jacket, $90, Levi's

This denim jacket is loose enough to wear a sweater under, but light enough to wear a coat over.

2. With Knee-High Boots
