Kris' New Interview Says A Lot About Her Character

I think of the Kardashian-Jenner family as being open to the point of exploitation, so I feel like I learned a lot from the topics that Kris Jenner refused to discuss in her new interview with Evening Standard Magazine. Since she's not only a mom but also a momager to all six of her kids, I assumed that any unsavory details that leaked out about the family — whether on Keeping Up With The Kardashians or otherwise — were intentional peeks that Kris was offering us. It felt to me like if talking about something was going to get the family more attention, then you sucked it up and talked about it, no matter how personal it was. But now that there are major changes happening in Kris' family, and I've read her thoughts on them in this new interview, I'm starting to reevaluate.

Because there really are things that she won't talk about, even though they're the things we (or I, anyway) most want to hear about. I'm talking about Caitlyn Jenner coming out as transgender, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick's recent split and his entry into rehab, and Lamar Odom's hospitalization. When it comes to all of these topics, Kris seems to recognize them as belonging to her children, and she distances herself from them accordingly, refusing to betray the trust of those closest to her. And I really admire that!

In this situation, I feel like we can learn more about the good person that Kris Jenner is on the inside from what she doesn't say, rather than what she does. When it comes to Caitlyn, Kris stumbles over the proper pronoun a couple of times, in response to questions about whether she may have intimidated her ex, then says this:

I wish everybody well; when it comes to everybody else’s journey, as far as people that are trying to find themselves, this is a very fresh and new thing, so I think it’s important for me to let her tell her own story.

Letting everyone tell their own story! You surprise me, Kris Jenner, and I mean that genuinely! And she held true to that same stance while rejecting questions on Disick altogether and issuing a heartfelt but detail-free answer about Odom's collapse, as well:

Khloé [Kardashian] would never want anyone that she loves to be in a bad place or in pain. When you love someone, you love someone. Family is family. We all love him.

Wow, lady! These are questions that, if answered, would inarguably give her family more coverage, so I have to say, I'm pleased and impressed to see her dodging them. Either Kris is turning over a new leaf, or I had the wrong idea about what kind of plant she was in the first place.
