This Man Is Spreading Happy Headlines All Over

We don't live in a perfect world. Unfortunately, in the process of informing one another about the goings on of said imperfect world, we begin to paint a pretty bleak picture overall — which is why we needed this "Good News Project" Instagram now more than ever. There are a lot of cultural and psychological reasons we love to consume "bad news," and why certain news stories that are not widely impacting but are largely negative get so much more attention than not, but I'm not here to pick apart the why — only to say that there are some people who definitely, totally bring us hope.

Today it's Jaco Haasbroek, a South African artist who was driving home one day, and found himself inspired (and saddened) by yet another poster of a dog on a telephone poll reading: "STOLEN." "It's quite sad when someone loses a pet," he told Mashable. "The idea popped into my head that by simply adding 'Our Hearts' at the bottom of the poster, it would completely change its meaning and turn into something positive."

And so The "Good News Project" was born. A collection of optimistic (and very punny) headlines and announcements posted all around town, with fictional headlines that Haasbroek prints and then tacks to telephone polls as well as online. He claims that his favorite piece was "Nice Guys Finish Close Second," because, "This was his day... But at the same time not quite. So close." (I appreciate being as realistic as you are positive, Jaco.)
