The Winner of Best Original Song Will Surprise You

There are some big, serious names nominated for the 2014 Golden Globe for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. I know, I know, this category might not be as exciting as Best Actress, but come on! The music makes the movie. And this year, Justin Timberlake, Adam Driver, and Oscar Isaac are nominated for their song "Please Mr. Kennedy" for Inside Llewyn Davis , Taylor Swift got a nod for "Sweeter Than Fiction" for the movie One Chance, Coldplay's "Atlas", which was in Hunger Games: Catching Fire, also received a nomination and rounding out the list are Demi Lovato's "Let It Go" from Disney mega-hit Frozen and U2's "Ordinary Love" from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. In the end, though, it was, to everyone's surprise, U2's "Ordinary Love" that won the 2014 Golden Globe for best original song.

It's their second win and ninth nomination.

The nominees read like a veritable who's who in pop music right now. Timberlake, Swift, and Lovato all had huge years on the charts. In fact, Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience was the highest selling album of 2013. Swift had hits with "22" and "Red" and Lovato's songs "Made in the USA" and "Neon Lights" were inescapable radio hits. Coldplay and U2, on the other hand, had more, uh, under the radar years. But that's all changed now, I suppose.

U2 accepted the award presented by Sean Puffy Combs, Usher, and Kate Beckinsale.

Many predicted that "Please Mr. Kennedy", the faux-protest song that satirized the absurdness of its 1960s genre would take home the top prize, but how wrong they were. And Since Timberlake didn't nab this Golden Globe, that EGOG will have to wait.

If we had it our way, "Let It Go" would win all the awards for everything ever. You all have heard the song, right? Right? Ah, we're inspired to go twirl in the snow like none other and just let it all go right now.
