Leonardo DiCaprio Finally Gets Some Attention

by Caitlyn Callegari

It has been a tight race here in the 2014 Golden Globes Best Actor in Comedy, Motion Picture category ranging from Oscar award winners and nominees, to newbies, and to those who have famously been snubbed by award season year after year (we feel you, Leo.) Christian Bale was nominated for American Hustle, Bruce Dern for Nebraska, Leonardo DiCaprio for Wolf of Wall Street, Oscar Isaac for Inside Llewyn Davis, and Joaquin Phoenix for Her, and so it was truly gratifying that the Golden Globe went to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Given his masterful performance in The Wolf of Wall Street we can say that this award is truly a deserved one. Edging out competition from the likes of a hard, alcoholic Bruce Dern, a hefty and corrupt Christian Bale, a reclusive and lovesick Joaquin Phoenix, and a musical Oscar Isaac was no easy feat.

In his acceptance speech DiCaprio thanked Scorcese above all, crediting him as his mentor. He said that when we look back upon it, Scorcese will be regarded as one of the greatest artists of our time. (We'd tend to agree with that, too.)

Finally acknowledged by critics, we feel that Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of the reprehensibly charming Jordan Belfort was one to be lauded not only by theater-goers but by critics and the Hollywood Foreign Press alike. Leo has only one won Golden Globe previously, for his role in the Aviator and still has none (count em, zero) Academy Awards. Perhaps this will finally be DiCaprio's year, though if it isn't, we aren't really sure when it will be.

Congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio and to all the nominees on a job well done!
