Watch Mariah Carey's Christmas Movie Trailer

by Maggie Malach

Mariah Carey, the singer behind perennial classic "All I Want for Christmas Is You," is infusing even more spirit into the 2015 holiday season. Carey is starring and directing a new movie called A Christmas Melody , and the project's first trailer just hit the internet. Here's hoping that the movie includes everything we love about Carey's hit song.

The Hallmark Channel describes A Christmas Melody as "[revolving] around Kristin (Lacey Chabert), a beautiful, stylish divorcee who is a talented clothing designer and her young daughter. Kristin has just had to close her small Manhattan boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents’ former home. It’s an adjustment for Kristin and Emily – especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Mariah Carey). Melissa is president of the PTA and tries to make Kristen feel as unwelcome as possible. Kristen and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of the music teacher Danny (Brennan Elliott) and Kristin’s Aunt Sarah (Kathy Najimy), the local coffee shop owner. With a little holiday magic and music, Kristin and Emily find that home is where the heart is." You can check out the trailer in the video below!

Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" became a classic for multiple reasons. The singer's upbeat energy is infectious, which fits the joyousness of the Christmas season. The song overall is positive. It focuses on love versus materialism, which is never a bad thing to remember this time of year. Ultimately, the reason the song's popularity only continues to grow is that it has a timelessness about it. Likewise, classic Christmas movies also possess that same quality. If Carey's movie is to become a seasonal great, I hope it emulates all of the elements of her hit song.
