Who Are Adele's Celebrity Friends?

by Maitri Suhas

Adele might be private, reserved and even shy, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have friends! With the release of her already record-breaking album 25 on Friday, Adele finds herself once again in the spotlight that she’s tried to avoid for most of her career — and pretty successfully, I might add. But even though she’s quite shy and private, Adele still has her close friends, some of whom are fellow celebrities.

In her very revealing Rolling Stone cover story, Adele dished an uncharacteristically generous amount about motherhood, her supportive boyfriend Simon Konecki, who and what exactly 25 is about, and friendship. The 27-year-old explained that she has her own kind of "squad" (though she was still a little unfamiliar with the term), mostly made up of old friends from her past. But there are a few famous faces who love Adele wholly and deeply and who she loves right back.

Adele has been deliberately mysterious throughout her career, but of course, fans love seeing famous people hang out and love each other (myself included), not only to give themselves so-called "squad goals," but just to see strong, powerful women supporting each other. Obviously, most celebrities are huge fans of Adele — they joined the masses in their emotional reactions to the release of her single "Hello" — but there are only a few lucky enough to be close to the singer. And even though Adele might not spend tons of time with her celeb pals, all friendships are different! Here's who's blessed to be friends with Adele.

Jessie Ware is up and coming as a pop star in her own right. She recently released her second album, Tough Love, she's written songs with Ed Sheeran, and she had a soulful track on the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack called "Meet Me in the Middle." But the British singer (who used to be a journalist) is a childhood friend of not only Florence Welch from Florence & The Machine, but also Adele. She even helped reunite Adele with an old friend. As she told Now magazine,

Adele and I were at a New Year’s Eve party together I’d been writing with Adele’s old friend Laura Dockrill. And I said to Adele at this party, "I’m spending so much time with Laura and she really misses you." Adele was like, "Oh, I miss her too." And I said, "You really should get in touch" and that was it. She went and saw Laura, and they became best friends again.

A friendship to squeal about. Riri has always been a huge fan of Adele’s music, and when the British singer gave birth to her son, Angelo, in 2012, Rihanna reportedly sent some sweet gifts — both for the baby and the new mom. Rihanna is said to have sent some onesies for Angelo, and some lingerie for Adele, with a very Rihanna note added, of course: "You gotta stay sexy yummy mummy. Enjoy yourself. Congrats!!!" You can always count on Riri for some body-positive gifts.

And in her Rolling Stone interview, Adele confessed that even though her squad is "not as interesting as some of the other squads out there," she would love to have Rihanna join hers: "Maybe Rihanna can be in my squad! That would be really cool. Oh, God. She's life itself, isn't she? I love her." She loves you too, Adele.

Beyoncé

Do not try to mar the bond between Adele and Beyoncé, people. They both inspire each other so much, and Adele is quick to deny rumors that they are "feuding." Just this week, the British singer responded to a rumor that she had "snubbed" Queen Bey, who had supposedly asked Adele to write a duet. "There's a rumor going around that I turned Beyonce down," Adele said in an interview with Beats 1 Radio. "I'd never disrespect her like that. Obviously, like, Queen Bey until the day I die."

And the admiration is more than mutual. In a Rolling Stone interview in 2011, Adele gushed about how nervous she was when she met Beyoncé, and how Queen Bey immediately made her feel amazing about herself, which inspired Adele to create her alter-ego, Sasha Carter (a combo of two female powerhouses, Beyonce's Sasha Fierce and June Carter):

I was about to meet Beyoncé, and I had a full-blown anxiety attack. Then she popped in looking gorgeous, and said, "You're amazing! When I listen to you I feel like I'm listening to God." Can you believe she said that?"

OK, but where's their collaboration!?

The Beckhams

Adele has already been honored by the Queen, so it's only natural that she would be friends with the Beckhams, who also roll with the royal family. Here's an adorable fact: Adele is said to be neighbors with the Beckhams, and she's even reportedly had dinner with them before. Those super powerful Brits gotta stick together. I'd bet that Adele was a Spice Girls fan. She is all about girl power.

I respect Adele and her refusal to give into celebrity, because it does sound terrifying. But I'm glad she has a few supportive, celebrity friends to help her navigate the spotlight. Especially Beyoncé.
