We Tried Rachel's Awful Trifle From 'Friends'

I bet you're sitting there right now believing that nothing could ever taint Friends for you, but that thought is only going to last another moment until I remind you of the infamous trifle from one of the Friends Thanksgiving episodes. Rachel is determined to shed her reputation for not being a good cook, so she carefully follows the recipe for an English trifle...only to discover, after its completion, that two of the pages of the cookbook stuck together while she was cooking. Instead, what she's actually made is half English trifle, half Shepherd's Pie. Blech. But, hey, it happens to the best of us, right? Or no, let's be honest, it happens to the Rachels of us. I can't imagine Monica ever getting all the way through making a dessert before questioning why it had ground beef in it. But is the meal really as bad as it sounds? Naturally, being the Friends enthusiasts that we are, Bustle tried a real-life version of Rachel Green's trifle. The results were exactly what you'd expect.

The whole point of "The One Where Ross Got High" was that the trifle was gross, and everyone except Joey — who of course loved it — managed to get out of eating it without having to say it was bad to Rachel's face. The one silver lining is that we here at Bustle didn't have to pretend that the real version that was whipped up for them was anything other than stomach-turning. However, we still did have to put a bite of it in our mouths, so please send kind thoughts and love during this difficult time. Because look. At this. Monstrosity.

What you're seeing there is ladyfingers, jam, custard, bananas, raspberries, and whipped cream, and, of course, the layer of beef, sautéed with peas and onions, that brings it all together.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, this is as disgusting in real life as it sounded on the show, and here are the reactions everyone had to taking their first bite.

I love you, Friends, but that's a hard "no." Why you gotta do me like that? Watch the whole video above to get the full experience, just make sure you're holding back your gag reflex before you press play, because, oh boy, is it about to get triggered.

BRB, washing my mouth out with a marathon watch of all the Friends episodes that have never betrayed me like this.
