Even J. Law's Underrated Films Are Amazing

by Amy Mackelden

With the end of The Hunger Games franchise looming comes an impressive accolade for Jennifer Lawrence, our very own Katniss. Jennifer Lawrence is EW 's "Entertainer of the Year," a pretty exciting title for the actress as she finally wraps up the movie series that's dominated the past five years of her, and our, lives. I'm still grieving the end of The Hunger Games, much like I did when Breaking Dawn put the nail in Twilight's coffin, and it's going to be so difficult not getting another of these movies every year. What will be able to fill that gap? When asked by EW if she'd come to terms with the fact that her role as Katniss Everdeen had come to an end, Lawrence said, “It does feel over. It didn’t for a while and I didn’t think it would ever sink in, but it has now. It feels over. And that’s OK. It’s OK to move on.”

For Lawrence, The Hunger Games movies have been a long project. In EW she says, “I signed on to these projects when I was 20 years old. I remember being like, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to be 25 when I’m finished.' It seemed so far away.” And so much has happened in Jennifer Lawrence's career in that time. Not only is Lawrence bona fide Hollywood royalty at this point, but she's also carved out a career which really showcases her range as an actor. Here are some Jennifer Lawrence roles you absolutely need to see, which contribute to her getting that "Entertainer of the Year" moniker.

1. Like Crazy (2011)

Made right around the time Jennifer Lawrence's career skyrocketed, she plays a small part in this cute yet melancholic rom-com. Lawrence is dating this guy that she likes, but there's a catch. He's in love with a woman who lives in England, and he keeps Lawrence on the back-burner while that other crazy love affair plays out. Who'd keep Lawrence on the back-burner though, seriously?

2. House At The End Of The Street (2012)

Not as big of a deal as it should've been when released, this low-key horror movie features Lawrence kicking ass in the way only Lawrence can. Having moved to a small town with her mom, she befriends the guy who lives in the house at... you guessed it... the end of the street! And things get super creepy from there.

3. Winter's Bone (2010)

Jennifer Lawrence was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in dark indie movie, Winter's Bone. Her character's fearless, brave, unafraid to leave the house without make-up, and will do anything to protect her family. Total inspiration for Katniss Everdeen right there.

4. Serena (2014)

Reuniting with Silver Linings Playbook dream-team member Bradley Cooper, you might not have seen Serena yet, but you should. Even if it's only for the incredible outfits, and old-school love story.

Whatever Jennifer Lawrence decides to do next, I'll be watching. Her surprising choices, and interesting balance between indie movie roles and mainstream blockbusters, mean she'll probably keep us guessing with all the wonderful projects she does post-Hunger Games.
