Funniest Tweets About The Thanksgiving Day Parade

by April Siese

Thanksgiving is upon us and so is the 89th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The internet has been a fantastic sport about one of the country's oldest ongoing turkey day traditions since it lobbied to have Rick Astley rickroll an entire parade-watching public in 2008. Since then, social media has changed the very way we watch the event as well as who we get to see rolling among the balloons and marching bands. The funniest tweets about the Thanksgiving parade will make you thankful America has such a great sense of humor.

Entertainment Weekly called Rick Astley's performance aboard the Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends float the biggest highlight of the 2008 parade. The true high mark of hearing Astley's quintessential 1987 hit "Never Gonna Give You Up," wasn't just having it end but hearing a Foster's character exclaim, "I love rickrolling!" just as the track had faded out onto the streets of New York City. With the internet more a powerhouse than ever, who knows what hilarious ways that social media will impact this year's parade? Already, Twitter user @nick_pants has come up with his own float, a gaggle of geese that we can only hope some 3D printing expert has gotten to fabricating.
