Yes, John Oliver Can Do Stand-Up, Too — VIDEOS

by Melissah Yang

No, Google is not lying to you. There wasn't a new John Oliver diatribe on Sunday, because Last Week Tonight is on hiatus until February. If you're feeling deprived of your weekly dose of #RealTalk, don't worry, because I've got five John Oliver stand-up videos that'll give you just what you need these next few cold winter months.

Before Last Week Tonight and The Daily Show, Oliver was just like any other comic hitting the club circuit, hoping to one day make it big. Jon Stewart and TDS really helped catapult the British comedian's career, and allowed him some coveted secure spots on the stage. In 2008, he got his first stand-up special on Comedy Central, called John Oliver: Terrifying Times. From 2010 to 2013, he also hosted John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show, which had him opening for new acts and comics which included the likes of Hannibal Buress, Pete Holmes, and Reggie Watts.

Now, he looks good behind the Last Week Tonight desk, and the John Oliver Effect is a very real phenomenon these days. But it's always good to have a bit of a throwback, and these stand-up videos are a great way to honor where Oliver has been. There also a great way to kill time.
