8 Glitter Eye Products To Add Sparkle To Your Look

by Jessica Willingham

The holidays are for all things that sparkle, and makeup is not to be left out. You can create some beautiful, wearable looks with glittery eye shadow, whether it's your office holiday party or an impromptu ice skating date with your boo. Whatever the occasion, glitter is always a good call, but not any product will do. Here are the best glitter eye products you 100 percent need to amp up your looks for the holidays.

Glitter was queen of makeup and, really, all body products in both the ‘80s and early 2000s, but it’s taken a backseat in recent years to more matte and natural shades. Finally, we are seeing glitter back on the runway and in makeup. It’s a fun way to add a pop of festivity to your look and can be surprisingly wearable. Thanks to improved product quality and formulation, nowadays, glitter eye shadow won’t fall all over your face and ruin your makeup.

When it comes to glitter shadow, the highest quality (and maybe price) is best. Cheap glitter can be too chunky, flaky, and therefore impossible to work with. The products below are shimmery but still creamy, which makes them perfect for special occasions or everyday use.

To keep your glitter shadow on, you should prime your eyes with foundation, a glitter glue, or both! The color will go on pigmented and polished. Here are my favorite formulations.

1. MakeupGeek Foiled Eyeshadows

MakeupGeek Foiled Eyeshadows Expansion Set, $70, Makeup Geek

These are super creamy, blendable glitter shadows and that's pretty rare. Usually, glitter is chunky but you won't find a better shadow formula than these.

2. Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner

Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Eyeliner, $20, Sephora

These are beautiful layered on top of a winged black liner. The applicator is teeny tiny, so you don't have to worry about getting it all over the lid.

3. MAC Cosmetics Pigment

MAC Cosmetics Pigment, $22, MAC Cosmetics

Pigments can be intimidating, but you can use a glitter glue to adhere the product to your lid. If you're out of that, simply spray your setting spray onto your brush before applying.

4. Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour Wet/Dry

Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour Wet/Dry, $24, Sephora

Metallics are cool way to bring some edge to your holiday look without overdoing it. Just apply these onto the outer V of your crease.

5. NYX Liquid Crystal Liner

NYX Liquid Crystal Liner, $4, NYX Cosmetics

I love these funky colors, especially the warm reds. You can create a monochrome look with a line of glitter and a classically Christmas red lip.

6. Makeup Geek Duochrome Eyeshadow Pans

Makeup Geek Duochrome Eyeshadow Pans, $6, Makeup Geek.

Unlike the other shadows, these reflect multiple colors. Swipe a single shade across your lid and you'll have a dynamic look.

7. Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow

Kat Von D Metal Crush Eyeshadow, $21, Sephora

I love a frosty shadow like this for a brow bone highlight, a corner highlight, or a cheek highlighters. These vanilla shades are worth the money because you can use them so many ways.

8. Major Moonshine Glitter Gel

Major Moonshine in Supafly (Gold), $28, Major Moonshine

This "supersonic" glitter gel from celebrity colorist Daniel Moon is high pigment and high quality. The best part? It won't get everywhere — it's got a gel texture that will keep that sparkle in place.
