Rosamund Pike Is Reprising Her Role In A New Way

by Emma Oulton

Is it 2005 again already? Rosamund Pike is reprising her popular role as Jane Bennet in Pride and Prejudice… but this time she’s playing all the other roles as well. This summer, Pike celebrated a decade since she played the eldest Bennet sister by recording the new Pride and Prejudice audiobook for Audible.

From Gone Girl to An Education, Rosamund Pike has long been the queen of literary adaptations, so it’s only fitting that she should take on one of the most beloved works of literature of all time. We know she plays a magnificent Jane, but just imagine how great she could be as Mrs. Bennet! In fact, you don’t even have to imagine that — because we’ve teamed up with Audible to bring you an exclusive clip right here.

In this clip, Pike shows off her acting skills by embodying all at once Lizzie Bennet, her social-climbing mother Mrs. Bennet, awkward younger sister Mary, friend of the family Charlotte Lucas, and even Charlotte’s fanciful younger brother. They’re discussing the handsome but arrogant love interest Mr. Darcy — whom, of course, Pike will be voicing as well. And if the fantastic performance of the other characters in this clip is anything to go by, Pike may even be challenging Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen as to who can play the best Mr. Darcy.

The audiobook will be available on Tuesday, December 8th, so you can travel back to Pemberley while you decorate your apartment, while you put up your tree, or while you drive home for Christmas. And from what I've heard so far, Rosamund Pike's Pride and Prejudice could even bump Bridget Jones's Diary off the No. 1 Christmas P & P adaptation slot. Now that's some high praise.
