Timeline Of San Bernardino Shooting

by Joseph D. Lyons

Update: On Wednesday, Dec. 2, a shooting at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California left 14 people dead and 21 wounded. Hours after the attack, police pursued information that led to a chase of a dark SUV, which was later determined to be a rental car. A shootout between police and the suspects left both suspects dead. They were identified as Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, who were husband and wife.

According to SBPD Chief Jarrod Burguan, the four guns used in the shooting were purchased legally. The suspects were found to have 1,600 rounds of ammunition with them, and at a home they were renting in Redlands, California, law enforcement officers found 4,500 rounds of ammunition and 12 pipe bombs. No official motive has been confirmed, though a source told The Los Angeles Times that investigators are considering that it might be terrorism or workplace-related.

Earlier: As details continue to emerge on the San Bernardino shooting rampage, the timeline of events has grown clearer. Two heavily-armed shooters — one man and one woman — carried out the deadliest attack since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting almost three years ago. Wednesday's attack left at least 14 dead and 17 injured. No motive has been identified, but one of the shooters worked at the county health department, which was having a holiday party at the Inland Regional Center, the site of the attack.

Authorities identified the suspects as Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik — 28 and 27, respectively. According to CAIR-LA Director Hussam Ayloush, the two were married and had a six-month-old baby girl. A third person had been taken into custody, but it was not immediately clear whether they were directly involved in the attack. San Bernardino Police Department Chief Jarrod Burguan said that the department was reasonably confident that there were just two shooters, Farook and Malik.

The attack — carried out with semiautomatic hand guns and assault rifles — is the most recent shooting this year. By some counts, there have been 352 mass shootings so far in 2015. Wednesday was just the 336th day of the year. Two of the weapons were obtained legally, according to the ATF. The center that was attacked is a social services agency which works with people with developmental disabilities. More than 670 people work there.

We now have a rough timeline of the day's events.
