by Seth Millstein

The San Bernardino County coroner’s office has released the identities of everyone killed in the deadly Wednesday shooting at the Inland Regional Center. One of the victims was Shannon Johnson, a 45-year-old Los Angeles resident. Like one of the shooters and several of the victims, Johnson was an employee of the San Bernardino County Public Health Department, and he is among the 14 people who lost their lives in the attack.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Johnson was an Environmental Health Specialist at the county for 11 years; his job duties included were “food safety, recreational health and housing.” He graduated from California State University at San Bernardino in 2004, getting a B.S. in Health Science with a concentration in Environmental Health. In addition to the environment, Johnson cared about animal welfare, arts and culture, children, civil rights, social action, human rights, poverty alleviation, and social services, according to his profile.

Several other victims of Wednesday’s attack also worked for the health department, as did Syed Rizwan Farook, one of the shooters, according to authorities. Farook carried out the assault with his wife, Tashfeen Malik, and both of them were killed in shootout with police later in the day on Wednesday. As of Thursday evening, officials have yet to declare a motive.
