7 Smoothies To Combat Dry Skin

by Lindsey Rose Black

Beauty comes from the inside, and this couldn't be more true when it comes to making food choices that nourish your body. Treat the produce section like an aisle in Sephora and whip up these smoothies to combat dry skin this season. It's like shopping for moisturizer, only way more delicious.

I start almost every morning with a giant smoothie, and love how energized I feel to take on the day. And, if you've yet to dive into the world of smoothies, I have a few tips and pointers for you.

To blend everything together easily and avoid smoothie kitchen explosions (strawberry bits on the ceiling? No thank you), there are a few simple steps to follow. First, unless you own a Vitamix or Blendtec monster blender, you're better off using chopped ice or you might eventually break your blender's motor. Additionally, if you plan ahead enough, freezing your fruit beforehand will result in a much thicker, ice cream-like smoothie, which I am all about. Lastly, if you're adding any powders or supplements, it's best to put them on top and then add a little splash of liquid over. If you start with powder, it'll just get stuck at the bottom in the blades and turn into more of a paste. Yuck.

Now that you're ready to make the perfect smoothie, try the combinations below to help treat and ward off dry skin this season!

1. Spinach, Apple, And Banana

Celeb nutritionist Kimberly Snyder told Huff Po that the secret to reversing dry, dull winter skin is a serious fiber boost. She recommended whipping up a healthy green smoothie with spinach, banana, and apple juice for a powerhouse drink.

2. Pineapple, Banana, And Flax Seeds

Another deliciously tropical combo to brighten and hydrate skin is pineapple and flax with banana to make it smooth and creamy. Snyder explained, "Pineapple is excellent in promoting efficient digestion, which is what soft beautiful skin is dependent on [and] Omega-3 fatty acids [in flax seeds] help prevent inflammation, which can lead to dry damaged skin."

3. Mango Yogurt Smoothie

A scoop of Greek yogurt blended with a mango is a dry skin-fighting powerhouse, thanks to vitamins B6, C, and E.

4. Avocado, Orange, And Coconut Water

When blended, this combination turns into an orange dreamsicle flavor I can't get enough of. As Sally's Baking Addiction said, "Avocados hydrate the skin, bringing back that glow we all love." Who could turn that down?

5. Pumpkin, Yogurt, And Flax

I already went over the benefits of flax seeds in smoothies for combatting dry skin, but add pumpkin for a seriously moisturizing drink. Prevention explained, "Canned pumpkin packs in 17 mg of beta-carotene and 12 mg of alpha-carotene per cup. Our bodies convert both forms of carotene into the vitamin A ... a skin-supporting nutrient essential for cell growth and development." Add a pinch of cinnamon to make this smoothie taste like pie!

6. Avocado, Raspberry, And Banana

The avocado in this smoothie combo provides the fat necessary for supple skin, while raspberries are packed with antioxidants to ward off premature aging and keep your skin bright and clear. Add a handful of spinach for an extra boost of oxygenating chlorophyll if you can handle it!

7. Kiwi, Banana, And Coconut Water

Kiwi is an amazingly hydrating and collagen-boosting fruit, according to SuperfoodProfiles. Blend it with banana and coconut for a refreshing, light way to start the day.
