Mindy Kaling Is Just Like Us With Zit Selfie

Stars — they're just like us. Even Hollywood's A-list suffers from the occasional flu or stomachs an embarrassing trip on the sidewalk (or red carpet — I'm looking at you, J Law). And yes, they too are plagued by skin issues, acne scarring and all. Mindy Kaling posted an selfie while wearing zit cream on Instagram. You heard correctly: a beloved actress flaunting her zit cream to more than two million followers (and meanwhile, I still have to mentally prepare myself before doing class presentations).

Leave it to Kaling to add a humorous spin even on the most mundane topic. The comedian captioned her photo: "That zit cream in your 30s' life. At least I'm not going on the Tonight Show later today." At the moment, the refreshingly candid snapshot has racked over forty-thousand likes — evidently, Kaling's fans approve of this raw slice of celebrity life. Kaling might be your go-to gal for advice on friendship and feminism and her hit show The Mindy Project might be getting the Hulu treatment, but that doesn't mean she's beyond our league.

Kaling may be a maker of laughter and icon of inspiration, but she is also wonderfully relatable.

Apart from zit cream, Kaling is also fond of her beauty regimen. She shared her top product recommendations with The List app — here are seven that you can buy to channel your inner Mindy.

1. Foundation

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup, $64, sephora.com

Kaling praises this silky foundation for its light coverage and natural, luminous formula. At over sixty dollars a pop, it isn't exactly a spur-of-the-moment buy, but rather a treat 'yo self-worthy gift.

2. Blotting Paper

Tatcha Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers, $12, sephora.com

You best be incorporating blotting paper to your makeup bag now. Kaling suggests jamming these in your Edie Parker clutch (if only) in lieu of face powder. Reviewers laud the Tatcha beauty papers for its portable size and absorbant power. Plus, these papers are crafted out of natural abaca leaf for renewed skin. You'll never have to worry about a pesky oily T-zone ever again.

3. Lipstick

MAC Lipstick, $17, maccosmetics.com

Meet the ultimate milennial lipstick: the cult MAC lipstick in RiRi Woo. Every beauty blogger and their mother has raved about this smoldering red shade. Of course, it just so happens to be Kaling's favorite lippie. While this popular shade is currently sold out online, you can settle with Ruby Woo, a near-perfect dupe.

4. Highlighter

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat, $42, sephora.com

When Mindy Kaling brands a beauty product "the one and only," you know it's immediate grounds for purchase. She recommends using the YSL highlighter pen underneath the brow bone and inner-corners of the eye for an instant skin pick-me-up.

5. Contouring

Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit, $45, sephora.com

According to Kaling, this Smashbox palette will get the job done when you want to "be Oprah." Its easy-to-follow instructions allows anyone to sculpt and define to their desires.

6. Eyeliner

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, $25, sephora.com

Whether she wants to go precise flick or smoky and smudged, Kaling stays true to her Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner.

7. Eyeshadow

NARS Duo Eyeshadow, $35, beauty.com

Perhaps my most favorite quote from Kaling is how she decribes this NARS eyeshadow duo: "For my 'I wanna look like Lupita' mornings" — because who doesn't want to look like the angelic Nyong'o?
