YAAS: Tina & Amy Parodied 'Star Wars'

by Emily Lackey

I think it goes without saying that what the world is already in full supply are Star Wars fans. A few more might not hurt the franchise, but there are already quite a few from what I hear on the interwebs. But just in case the films are looking for a few good men and women to join the intergalactic fleet, including two of the funniest women in the next movie might be a good idea. Because as much as Tina Fey and Amy Poehler might not seem like the obvious choice for the next Star Wars film, including them in might round up some of the few remaining people who aren’t complete diehards. And the Tina & Amy hilarious parody of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens proves that.

In case you missed this small detail: Poehler and Fey's new movie Sisters scheduled to be released on the same day as the Star Wars: The Force Awakens . This point is not lost on the funny ladies and that fact serves as the entire basis for this parody/promo. And as much as I didn’t think I could love Fey and Poehler any more, this promo for Sisters definitely put me over the top. It’s just like them to confront their opening weekend competition head-on in a way that is inclusive and incredibly funny. Refusing to take themselves too seriously in the promo, as always, Fey and Poehler (and Maya Rudolph!) talk about their bra size, break into impressions of Chewbacca, and even admit to being a little tipsy (gotta love the honesty).

Now, if those two wouldn’t help boost the fun factor in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, then I don’t know what would. I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but put Poehler and Fey in the next one with a few light sabers and strange looking creatures, and I might just be the first person in line at the theater, J.J. Abrams. Well, after I see Sisters of course.

Thankfully, Fey and Poehler remind us all that you don’t have to choose one or the other. In their hashtag-appropriate send off at the end of the promo, they remind us not to worry: #youcanseethemboth.
