25 Important New Voices Who Joined Twitter in 2015

by Courtney Lindley

On June 1, 2015, Twitter exploded. The event was the unveiling of Caitlyn Jenner's personal Twitter account, and simultaneous world debut as Caitlyn. After Jenner's account went live, #CallMeCaitlyn soon began trending, as she — according to Guinessworldrecords.com — reached 1 million followers in an unprecedented four hours and three minutes. Though Jenner's new account was momentous for the social media site — and impressive to witness! — Jenner wasn't the only exciting and important voice to join Twitter in 2015.

In fact, 2015 was a huge year for new Twitter users. From politicians (including the President of the United States), to Hollywood A-listers, to athletes, it seems that everyone and their mother — or in the case of Victoria and David Beckham, their son — was getting a piece of the Twitter action. In the past couple of years, Twitter has become a necessity for those who build their business on being known and heard. The social media platform can no longer be ignored, as it's impossible to overlook how much influence Twitter has on our current culture. (#TheDress, anyone?) Thankfully, those who have been waiting to join, finally stepped up to the plate this year, and helped take Twitter to a whole new, unstoppable level.

In honor of this year coming to a close, let's celebrate the voices Twitter gained in 2015 by looking at everyone's first tweets!

The Academy Award winning actor is certainly not too old to join.

10. Diana Ross

11. Edward Snowden

The most controversial Twitter join of the year, Edward Snowden started things off with a confrontational question. Quick shout out to the fact that he's only following one other account: the National Security Agency, which just so happens to be the agency that he famously leaked documents from. Snowden, you jokester.

Mexican auteur director, Guillermo del Toro! It's really him! Rejoice!
