Bill Murray's Next Wes Anderson Movie Role's Great

by Jordana Lipsitz

There comes a time in every girl's life when pretty much everything she loves comes together in one magical combination. For me, this happened today when I found out that Bill Murray will be playing a dog in Wes Anderson's new animated movie — which, oh, by the way, is a Japanese stop-motion piece. Dogs? Check. Wes Anderson? Check. Animated movie? Check. Japanese-style? Check.

There isn't much information about the film yet — according to Indiewire, we don't even know what stage of production it is in. However, we can likelt assume it's going to take a looooong time to finish the movie, because stop motion takes FOREVER. But, all I really need to know is the film is about our furry canine friends. To be honest, I am a little concerned about the well-being of these animated pups, because Anderson's movies don't have the best track record with dogs: in his films, dogs have been abandoned (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou), shot with arrows (Moonrise Kingdom), drugged (Fantastic Mr. Fox), and killed in car crashes (The Royal Tenenbaums). I'm just hoping this adorable concept is some sort of apology to the dog population as a whole.

Anderson also has another trend in his films — and that is using the same actors in multiple films, Bill Murray included. Attached to the movie in addition Murray so far are regular Anderson actors Jeff Goldblum, Edward Norton, and Bob Balaban. I can only hope other regulars to be added as well.

This concept does make me wonder: Since Murray will be playing a dog in the movie, what sort of dog will he be? And, since other regular Anderson actors will also appear in the film, what sort of breed of dog will they be? So, as an ode to these actors I love, Wes Anderson who I love, and dogs that I ADORE, I decided to figure it out. Why not, right?

A Greyhound

With Norton's lanky frame and intensity, he is definitely a Greyhound. Have you ever seen a Greyhound run? They take that stuff SERIOUSLY.

This hound is just as glamorous as Houston. Those glorious locks are unreal. I wonder if this dog and Houston use the same shampoo?

I know Goldblum is a very tall man and a French Bulldog is a very small dog. This one is just all in the eyes.

A Pharoah Hound

Though actually not from Egypt, there is a myth that Pharoah hounds were common hunting dogs used by Egyptian royalty. And Swinton is basically royalty in my eyes, so these two are a match made in heaven.

A Golden Doodle

A Golden Doodle is not a real breed — it is just a mix of a Poodle and a Golden Retriever. This pup's scruff is goofy demeanor is as if Wilson's soul was channeled into a dog, though.

As I learned from an Instagram post from a dog lover I follow vigorously, the Germans have a phrase "teckel augen," which literally translates to Dachshund eyes. This term is for the look on someone's face when they are trying to get something from you. With Brody's eyes, he could get anything from me. Brody, you want my first born? Fine. Do you want to be the father of my first born? Also, fine.

A Corgi

These dogs are some of the most internet famous due to their adorable stubby legs and long bodies. Like Murray, the Internet has done well for their careers. Also Queen Elizabeth II likes them and I'm sure she also likes Murray, so there's that.

No word yet on when the film will be released, or what type of dog Murray will really be playing in the movie — but seriously, I vote Corgi. It's so perfect!
