What Happened To Hook On The 'OUAT' Fall Finale?

by Rachel Paige

I hear the Underworld is nice this time of year. Maybe Emma and the rest of the Charmings will send us a postcard from there. You know, when they all travels there during Once Upon A Time Season 5B to retrieve Hook, who found himself on the pointy end of Excalibur during "Swan Song." But is Hook really dead?

Though Hook has died before on the show (remember the Season 4 finale, anyone?) and has certainly come close to death before, this time it appears as if it's really happened. As a co-Dark One, and the only way to stop him is to kill him. Not wanting to do this, Emma decides to consume the darkness herself, saving him and everyone else. But all of these plans go out the window when it's Hook who steps up to the plate to consume ALL the darkness himself.

Yes, it's a noble thing for him to do, especially considering the fact that during a flashback, we learn that Hook actually killed his father. Eek. Deciding that he wants to be a better man than that now, the only thing for him to do is sacrifice himself. He cries, Emma cries, everyone cries. Then, Emma has to stab him with Excalibur, reversing every aspect of the Dark One for both of them. Doing this kills Hook.

Maybe the funniest part of the episode is when he's taken away by the paramedics. Funny in a, he-was-killed-by-the-Dark-One-so-the-EMTs-come way. That aside, everything points to him being dead. Or should I say, dead for right now. Because no sooner does Emma start to regain some of her old self back, she realizes she's got to get Hook back. How does one do that for a dead loved one? Why, traveling to the Underworld of course.

The end of the episode shows Emma and the rest of the Charming crew board a ship for the Underworld. How exactly they're going to find Hook and bring him back to the land of the living will be determined when OUAT picks back up in March. For now, though, Hook is dead. But probably not dead-dead for long.
