These 'GoT' Season 6 Clips Are Brief But So Good

by Kadeen Griffiths

The next season of Game of Thrones is one of the most highly anticipated upcoming seasons that will be gracing our televisions, not in the least because of how things were left at the end of Season 5. I think it's the allure of the unexpected. After all, Game of Thrones Season 5 finally caught up to where George R. R. Martin's popular book series left off, which means that the Game of Thrones writers and cast are flying blind and playing fast and loose with canon from here on out. (Well, they still have a lot of storylines they can still adapt that were left out before, but overall there is still a lot of wiggle room like they've never had before.) In the latest preview of Game of Thrones Season 6, we get to know... well, almost nothing about what's to come. Certainly nothing about the one character everyone's really curious about. However, the HBO 2016 promo includes some quick clips from Game Of Thrones Season 6 that every an needs to see, because new footage is great footage, no matter how brief and vague.

The shots feature fan favorite characters like Dany and Cersei, along with Ramsay Bolton (played by Iwan Rheon of Misfits fame). The trailer overall features plenty of footage from new seasons of other upcoming shows, as well as clips from shows that will be making their debut on HBO in 2016, but let's focus on what's really important here. We're carried from Season 5 of Game of Thrones into Season 6 of Game of Thrones in these shots, and the stark contrast between where the characters were and where they are now will make your heart ache.

Cersei

HBO

Ah, Cersei. That character that you love to hate, because her ruthless manipulations combined with the fact that she always goes a step too far and lands herself in trouble makes her entertaining to watch but difficult to root for. This shot of her giving the stink eye from the throne is contrasted against the following shot from Season 6...

HBO

In which Cersei, her hair cut short after her penance walk, is embracing her son Tommen and looking extremely emotional. It aches my heart to remember the way she was berated and shamed during the walk, and, while I look forward to seeing Cersei get her revenge and claw her way to the top again, it's nice to see that rare softer side of her.

Dany

HBO

Ah, Dany. The khaleesi. My personal hero, and the one I'm rooting for the most on this show to get what she wants. (I mean, really, if there's anyone I want to see on that Throne...) Enjoy this picture of her looking distressed, but also beautifully put together, because in Season 6 we get....

HBO

A Dany who looks more desperate and war torn than ever before. Last time we saw her in Season 5, she was stuck in a lot of trouble, and it looks like she survived it, but, you know, at what cost? At least she's got her dragons. And, speaking of them, well.

Her Dragons

HBO

This beautiful shot of a dragon flying overhead just as Tyrion looks up is contrasted with this epic shot from Season 6...

HBO

Of Dany riding that dragon out of trouble (or into battle) like the badass khaleesi that she is. Bring it on. Bring. It. On.

Jon Snow

HBO

Finally, we get this great shot of Jon Snow gazing into our very souls, but, if you're expecting a corresponding shot of Jon Snow from Season 6, prepare to be disappointed. None of the clips that we get rom Season 6 are of the Lord Commander, oh no. Instead, we get this image...

HBO

Of Ramsay Bolton, no doubt on his way to continue trying to make the House of Stark his b*tch. I can't wait to see it, and, if you're as impatient as I am, then you're going to want to watch this video again and again and try to glean everything you can from the new but brief footage.
