9 Horrifying Outcomes Of Trump's Muslim Ban

by Melissah Yang

Donald Trump has truly reached a new low, even by his standards. In an official statement released last Monday, the Republican called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." The Republican frontrunner has been condemned from all sides for his latest attack against the world's second largest religion, including by people within his own party. But the man is still leading the GOP pack, which begs the question: what if Donald Trump's ban on Muslims were real?

Trump isn't a stranger to making waves with controversial statements, but this declaration of hate feels different, probably because it really is the most un-American thing he's said so far in his contentious presidential campaign. From claims of Mexican "rapists" crossing the border in herds to Muslims cheering on 9/11, Trump has toed and, for many, crossed the line of bigotry and xenophobia. But his latest attacks on Muslims also attack one of the most sacred tenets of the Constitution: freedom. Which includes freedom of religion and worship.

In the words of Hillary Clinton, "I no longer think he's funny."

Let alone the pragmatic repercussions of a religious quarantine or the logistical nightmare it would wreak on America's economy and foreign policy, a ban on Muslims would fundamentally change America's identity, and that's a gamble no true leader of this great country would ever take.

1. U.S. Relations With Muslims Countries Will Suffer

The country with the largest Muslim population is not in the Middle East. It's Indonesia, which is actually a key U.S. ally in Southeast Asia.

2. The Ban Will Hurt America's Economy

Nearly one-quarter of the world's population is Muslim. That's 1.6 billion people who will pretty much want nothing to do with the United States.

3. Discrimination Against Muslim Americans Will Grow

Around 1 percent of all Americans are Muslim, yet backlash against the community is at an all-time high.

4. Muslim Americans Won't Be Able To Travel

Theoretically, once you leave, you won't be able to come back.

5. America Will Miss Out On Muslim Talent

Malala Yousafzai, Dave Chappelle, Iman, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are all Muslim.

6. America Will Lose Its Status As A World Leader

America can't lead if it quarantines a complete religion outside its borders.

7. Terrorism At Home Will Continue

From 1980 to 2005, 94 percent of all terrorist attacks on American soil were committed by non-Muslims, according to the FBI.

8. ISIS Will Get Stronger

The experts have spoken. ISIS will use Trump's anti-Muslim policy as proof that America hates Muslims.

9. American Will No Longer Be America

Enough said.
