Amy Vachal Eliminated From 'The Voice' Too Soon

by Jessica Molinari

With The Voice Live Finale right around the corner, the remaining contestants faced the biggest elimination of the season tonight. Three of the five semifinalists going home tonight have been revealed and there's already a major upset — Team Adam's Amy Vachal was eliminated from the competition. Vachal became a front-runner early on with her Indie covers of popular songs, so it's a bit of a mystery as to why America sent her home. She was one of the most unique, talented artists of the competition and deserved a spot in next week's Live Finale.

Vachal was hands down the most original artist of the competition. She pushed the envelope week after week by taking on songs like "Hotline Bling" and "Bye Bye Bye" — songs most artists wouldn't even dream of touching. Her performances consistently impressed both the fans and the coaches, so what happened? It could be that her last performance just wasn't as newsworthy as the rest.

Unlike the other artists in the competition, Vachal chose a safer song in last night's semifinal. Instead of taking on a current Top 40 hit, the Brooklyn native performed Bob Dylan's "To Make You Feel My Love." This song was more in Vachal's wheelhouse than her previous performances, which is probably why she didn't impress the audience as much as she did in the past. Unfortunately, this wasn't the week to play it safe. Ultimately, this is probably why Vachal was given the boot.

Vachal is joined by teammate Shelby Brown and Braiden Sunshine in the Bottom 3 who were all sent home immediately. Jeffery Austin, Madi Davis and Zach Seabaugh are also in the bottom, but they were given the chance to sing for America's Save. Only one spot remains in the Finale, so who will it be? Only time will tell, but I can't wait to find out.
