At 2014 Critics' Choice Awards, Stars Dress Down but Still Look Fabulous

We love fancy red carpet gowns as much as (if not more than) the next person. But every now and then, it’s nice to see the stars hit the awards show circuit in something a little more relaxed. And at Thursday night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, they did just that, proving that they really are like the rest of us — only with stylists and designer outfits. Check out a few of the best casual looks to hit the Critics’ Choice red carpet.

Julia Roberts

Though casual, Julia Roberts actually stepped it up a notch from her horrible Golden Globes shirt-under-a-dress ensemble, looking fittingly chic in a patterned Juan Carlos Obando dress and sunnies, because she’s just that cool.

Bradley Cooper

Bradley Cooper could wear sweatpants and still look sexy on the red carpet. Alas, the American Hustle star looked plum cute (pardon the pun) in a purple-hued Bottega Veneta suit sans tie.

Cate Blanchett

It may be a far cry from her plunging Armani Privé gown at the Golden Globes, but Blanchett looks as enviously chic as ever in a belted green gown from Lanvin.

Matthew McConaughey

Looking more than just alright, alright, alright, the Dallas Buyers Club star turned up the shine in a silver Lanvin suit coat and retro shades.

Camila Alves

Matthew McConaughey’s leading lady looked red hot from head to toe with a simple monochromatic ensemble from Paule Ka.

Pharrell Williams

Who else but Pharrell Williams could pull off a shiny jacket, sleek bow tie, and rolled-up suit pants all at once — and on the red carpet, at that?

Amy Adams

Steering clear of ‘70s-inspired style this time around, leading lady Amy Adams kept it simple but stunning in a hot pink off-the-shoulder Roland Mouret gown.

Melissa McCarthy

Funny lady Melissa McCarthy gets points for not only looking laid-back and casual-cool in a patterned dress and relaxed tresses, but also for the fact that she actually helped design the custom gown herself.

Jared Leto

Why not let your hair down and show a little skin on the red carpet? Jared Leto certainly wasn’t afraid to.

Julie Delpy

The Before Midnight star picked the perfect polished Romona Keveza dress for a more relaxed awards show — and possibly for hitting the horse races post-ceremony.

James Marsden

Hello, pattern! Marsden brought the fun last night with an Ovadia & Sons plaid suit, classic brown loafers, and that sexy stare.

Margot Robbie

The Wolf of Wall Street star learned an important lesson last night: You don’t need a gown when you can look just as awesome in a lace-sleeved Elie Saab jumpsuit.
